weekend update

It was a good weekend. Not the best, but still good.

This was the first weekend in, what, months?, that we skipped restaurants on Friday and Saturday; instead, morganie cooked two wonderful dinners. (We're becoming somewhat disillusioned with restaurants, at about the same time that she's acquiring some impressive cooking skills.)

Then on Saturday we continued our condo wall resurfacing project. We thought it would be simple: Steam off wallpaper, clean with TSP, and repaint. But instead, we find that there's 40 years of nasty peeling paint that someone probably wallpapered over at some point when they couldn't figure out how to deal with it. So after steaming up the wallpaper and glue, we chipped off all the old paint we could, and now we're in the process of applying a stop-peel product of dubious effectiveness, and then we hope to repaint. And at the same time, we're seriously considering just putting up some wainscoting!

On Sunday after church, we went geocaching. We weren't really planning on it, but it seemed like a great day to be out and about. In addition to the usual beautiful views, we came across a fairly unique cache: Shawshank Redemption, which ended up taking us several hundred feet through a rainwater drainage pipe. (No, it wasn't carrying sewage. Just rainwater.) That's certainly something I'd never experienced before.
