I think it worked very well. And yeah, adoration has an absolute dark side to it. You're very right that love and adoration can be two totally different things. There are some who *never* see through that.
Love says, "I trust you to grow, to choose, to exist apart and I hope you choose me anyways."
It's true with parents too. And I try to be the kind that loves but not adores. Adoration never pretends that one can be more. Adoration ruins kids as well as lovers.
I like it. Meaning, I like the writing style, the descriptions, the pacing. I don't like that I know all too well the situation or that you'd ever have to deal with it. I wish nobody did.
