It seems I have a lot more to learn about being in a relationship than I thought. I'm somewhat more selfish than I believe myself to be and that has to change (not 'could stand to', has to; as in must) if I'm to have half the chance I want at being in a happy and successful marriage. Part of the problem lies in my near constant heaping of blame

You're right, you do need to change in order to make yourself a better person. But don't just change to keep her. Because if she ever goes away, you would be without your reason for change and possibly revert. But good luck working on your issues. I know it's been a long time coming. I'll be there when you need a friend, because changing like this always takes a ear to listen and shoulder to cry on. :)
