Four letters and counting...
I am reading Expletive Deleted: a good look at bad language and it is very interesting. I think the author is not quite taking it seriously enough though. Part of that is some sort of audience confusion. The book is intended for the general public and is the kind of thing one could gift to that one friend with a mouth ( Read more... )

you know, I learned about asterix in my linguistics class. I think it is one of the most common errors people make in English. then again, language is dynamic, so maybe one day it really *will* be asterix. I hope it becomes that way soon, because 1) asterix is a lot cooler, 2) it is much easier to say, and 3) then maybe people would falsely say it was from Latin, and that's something we all need more of in our lives: some good FOLK etymology!

Isn't it called metathesis or something? well, that's what cramming gets me...a faulty memory.
