the price of a seikatsu, ridiculous inflation

the notice from Sophia came a couple days ago, and I got in. don't let that period there make you think I'm not happy about it. I'm just too anxious about the whole thing to act exuberant about it at the same time ( Read more... )

i know quite a few ex-Sophia students (thru Sophia's and UT's exchange program) so if you'd like I could send out an email asking if anyone knows about housing near campus. most of them have already graduated and used to live with their parents when they were in school, but i do recall them mentioning friends from other prefectures who had to rent places near Sophia. then you wouldn't have to live in a gaijin house. so if you'd like, just send me an email specifying what you're looking for (budget, location, etc) and i could just forward it out.

btw, when will you be back in Austin again?

actually come to think of it, an email in japanese, if possible, would be great. possibly a higher chance of getting a reply.

waah that would be awesome, I'll write an email tonight. actually, could we hang out tonight? I don't have that much time, but I'm not sure how long you'll be in austin. I'm here now and will be back again on July 13 until I go to tokyo in september, so if it doesn't work out today hopefully I can see you when I get back. my house number here is 258-5927, give me a call if you're free

If you need a place to stay temporarily, I have a friend who lives in Tokyo who could probably put you up. Let me know..

M

P.S. I would stay away from "Weekly Mansion"... they're not that great and pretty pricey too

weird... I was going to ask about weekly mansion. thanks for the warning and for the offer. I found a place to stay, so it's all good. but you should let me know some of your favorite places in tokyo - you're the only friend I know who's lived there for a significant period of time and who has similar interests to mine... you know... bondage clubs etc ;p jk but some good music shops, cool student areas and campy theme restaurants would be cool to know, though they may not be that hard to find now that I think about it

kyaaa~ If my snail mail doesn't reach you in time before yo' departure...Bon Voyage! Have a wonderful time & take lots of pictures!

have a great trip to Viet-nam. I am assuming a gaijin house is probably like a bedsit, so if you end up getting a full room with nice mod cons, I would love to visit Japan in maybe 6-9 months. I obviously don't know anything other than "iie" and "egogata katimas-ka" so you'd have to be my eyes and ears.

I don't know exactly what a bedsit is either, but by gaijin house I just meant international house where I would have to share a kitchen/bathroom or otherwise be generally surrounded by english-speaking tourist-types. anyway, you're more than welcome, wherever I end up. I'll let you know if I get my own room :p

a bedsit is what they call in england a room with a shared bathroom and kitchen, same thing.
I seriously would love to visit Japan, it would be rather unlike anything I've ever seen. And I imagine lodging is the most expensive expense, followed by trains and bus costs. If I could snag a $500 flight from Seattle I could probably easily do it.

also, if you want to go do something this weekend before you leave, like eat at Zen, let me know.
There's also a cheap concert from a band that my friends are in, and a movie at Alamo I wanted to see tonight, and you're welcome to come to those.

Looks like I missed the train on this one.
Well, I also have a few good friends in Tokyo; you're welcome to hit them up for housing or entertainment. Emi and Hiro will be living there, and Shit used to be living there, but is now long-term visiting or something like that.

hey, I put some pictures up on my site. a few. Oh + congrats on the thingy.
