I wish that I had known you'd be in California, because I would have liked to go and see you. Hope you're very well - Linlin

hey linlin, how've you been?! when I went to CA I stayed in the Palo Alto area, which is pretty far from where you are, but if I'm ever in LA I'll definitely let you know. it'd be awesome to meet up.
I saw uemiya-sensei a few times since then, she's as cute and as plagued with halitosis as ever! ;) sad the center's moving though. if you're ever in tokyo, do email me - I'm jennlillie on gmail.

Cool! I actually was just thinking about you, wondering how you were doing!

It's funny that you should mention Uemiya-sensei's breath, I remember the whole thing about that in class, haha.

I may be in Tokyo for work some time or another early next year (kinda unlikely, but certainly possible,) so I'll definately mail you!

Sun Kil Moon is great fall music. it's the same singer from a band called Red House Painters that I found out about first, but SKM is better than RHP I think. their most recent album "tiny cities" is excellent, all really inventive covers of Modest Mouse songs that I much prefer to Modest Mouse. the first album of original material is good too. perfect for walking around in the woods feeling sorry for yourself, or at least makes you feel like it would be. no trees here, of course. ;p

Some recommended reads:
Ph.D. Comics - Skews to engineering/science Ph.D.s, but it is a depressingly accurate portrayal of grad life.

Getting What You Came For : The Smart Student's Guide to Earning an M.A. or a Ph.D. (Paperback) - Covers a lot of different aspects of grad life, from applying to dealing with stress to finding an advisor, etc.

thanks for those! the comic's cute. I actually already have getting what you came for - being able to read common sense in actual print (and then ignore half of it ;) )was somehow reassuring.
