“Fascinating.” He mumbled to himself as he examined cuttings from an unnamed plant, the bright green leaves covered in tiny filaments, just brushing against them delivered a very painful sting and a bruise, which he had learned first-hand ( Read more... )

Chris watched the scientist work for a moment before interrupting. "Hi, I'm new around here...Dr. Rune, just got off the Daedalus, I'm trying to meet a few people from the nearby labs before they put me to work..."

Jeremy turned in his seat, slightly startled. However he offered a smile, "I'm Jeremy Faal, it is a pleasure to meet you." he paused slightly, "What do you study?"

"I'm an astrophysicist," he answered. "I'm supposed to be working closely with Dr. McKay, but I haven't had the honor of meeting him yet."

"Sounds fun." the biologist replied, grinning, while he failed miserably in the area of physics, it was still quite interesting. "Would you like a seat?" he winced slightly, remembering his manners.

"Cooking always looked like fun, but I'm sure I would've gotten distracted by something shiny and let it burn," Chris said ruefully. "Half the time I think that's why I went into astrophysics, it's one of the few disciplines where you're *supposed* to be looking at the shiny things."

He looked over the selections offered by the mess hall for a few moments before loading up his plate with something that looked interesting and probably edible. "So, what's a nice boy like you doing studying hostile plants in another galaxy? If you don't mind me asking, that is."

"Shiny is good." Jeremy said as he poked through the various food items, eventually putting a few of the items onto his plate, before replying, "Cooking is fun, if you want to learn I could probably teach you a bit." he shrugged, and looked over the mess hall, leading the way to a table and sitting down.
A smirk twisted his lips, "I don't think 'nice boy' is the proper way to describe me, but I'm study evolution...the plants are a bit of a fun side-project."

Chris shrugged. "Nah, I've kinda gotten used to being the guy who'd burn a pot of noodles - gives other people an excuse to cook for me. They get someone to test out new recipes on, I get food that's usually pretty good...works out all around. Wouldn't want to mess with the balance by actually learning to cook for myself."

He laughed. "Ahh, evolution - into the controversial stuff, are you? I wasn't sure people paid by the government were allowed to talk about evolution anymore...or was that just people in public schools?"

Jeremy grinned at the idea of burning a pot of noodles, and said, "Of course, one must not mess with the balance."

He paused for a moment, idly playing with his fork, "I have no clue about what goes on in schools these days." he eventually said, shrugging, "But studying human and animal evolution was what got me noticed and stuck in Area 51 studying alien samples." he shrugged.

"So...astrophysics? What's that like?"
