Sing Me A Song

Idly he plucked a string, testing the sound for a moment, listening as the wind ripped the notes away.
It was quiet, but not for long, this was where he went to play standing at the edge of one of the piers so he wouldn’t disturb anyone in the city.
Jeremy hummed softly, enjoying the feel of the cutting wind while he tested the strings.

Chris followed the sound of music out to the pier - he knew it was where Jeremy practiced, but he'd never heard him play before. He stood quietly, far enough away not to disturb the other man, but still close enough to watch him as he played.

He changed songs, and the instrument screamed beneath his fingers.
Head still back and eyes still closed, a rare expression of pure joy playing across his face.
Playing made him feel free, the notes carrying away his thoughts for a short while, leaving only a pleasnt tingling behind.

He watched Jeremy play, oblivious to his presence, and a small smile flitted across his lips - some days it seemed like Atlantis was all about getting the job done, saving the world, staying alive, no time to enjoy the moment; it was good to see that someone, at least, found time for a little peace.

He stayed silent, waiting for Jeremy to finish on his own time and notice him.

He stayed in his little zone for two more songs, his voice rising to mingle with the sound of his guitar, drifting out over the waves.
Time seemed to fly when he was out here, unlike in the labs where it felt as though he was the only thing moving at a normal pace, the rest of the world in slow motion.
Time for a short break.
He gently rested the instrument on the ground, stretching out and turning, the smile returning to his face as he spotted Chris, "Hey."

Chris leaned forwards, chasing the brief heat of Jeremy's lips brushing against his. One hand rose to cup Jeremy's cheek, thumb running across his lips before he closed the final gap between them. The kiss was tentative, hesitant, and altogether too brief - but it was a beginning.

He laughed, nervously, his other hand wrapping around Jeremy's waist, pulling him closer. "So, does this mean we're dating now?"

If Jeremy were a cat he would have been purring.
Eyes half closed he studied Chris, a vauge smile tugging at his lips, "I would like that." he replied quietly, before flushing, "If that is what you would like?" now the words were hesitant, almost nervous as he wrapped his arms around the other, waiting.

Chris smiled, hand slipping down from Jeremy's cheek to slide across his shoulder and rest on his back. "Yeah...yeah, I'd like it too. You're really...I've never had much time for dating, what with the science and all, thought it was a waste of time really, I wouldn't be dating anyone I could take home to meet my parents anyway, but...suddenly the whole pairing off thing doesn't seem so silly, with you."

Jeremy said nothing at first, nodding slightly.
From the look on his face it was clear that he thought the same thing.
When he finally spoke, the words were low, "I never saw the point...in dating...like you said...a waste of time." he smiled at nothing, "This dosen't seem like a waste of time."

Jeremy's smile was infectuous, and Chris found himself smiling too. "I hadn't quite thought that far ahead yet. There's always email, but if I do that they're guaranteed to hate me for the rest of their lives...maybe I could go home next time I'm back on Earth, visit a bit...maybe even bring you with me?"

"I would enjoy that." he replied.
To tell the truth, he had not planned on going back to Earth.
Ever.
If they were going to try and ship him back, he would take his stuff and move to another planet.
But it would be nice to go back with someone he cared about.
"As long as you promise to come and meet my family."

"And as long as you promise to rescue me from mine if needed," Chris added. "They can get sort of scary sometimes, and that's under normal circumstances - I'd hate to be the center of their attention, especially in a negative way, and I'm sure I will be once I introduce you as my boyfriend."

"I promise to rescue you." he replied, laughing, "I shall be your...knight in shining armour come to save you."
