On a whim I drove up to the hills to watch the sunset tonight. I don’t know what it is about driving on winding roads, listening to good music and watching the sky change colors over a panoramic view of the bay, but it makes me happy in a way that very little else does…

For some reason people never truly show their true selves for fear of being labeled insane or whatever the hangup might be. I personally and will always stand by you are who you are. The general public might think what they will but is it not stifling and debiliating to live an exsitence that is choked by hiding behiding a mask? I say "Hell YES Sista!" This is the reason why people snap, or do things years down the line that others end up having saying, "Oh my I would have never thought." All because the person was not able to express themselves fully. If we lived in a world where people could express their personal views, character, innermost thoughts maybe we could start working towards a healthier society. Okay enough of my hippie, psuedo psycho babble. The view sounds awesome!

I totally agree with you in cases where the lack of full-self-expression is intentional and done out of fear. I can't tell you how many times I've wished that our society was more accepting of people as they are instead of as they are expected to be. Just after reading your post I was on BART (public transit) people watching and wondering whether the people I saw were just confidently being themselves or were self-consciously trying to display an image of what they think is acceptable...who knows ( ... )
