I have nothing to say before the cut. Cut.
First, news you can use, if you live in Cleveland. I'll be coming back for Jeff and Libby's wedding during memorial day. Friday the 23, GK is driving out to PA to see her sister. I'll be seeing a bunch of 'film society friends' at the wedding, but won't be seeing any other ziguratti et al. If you'll be around on Friday, either during the day or the evening, let me know.
News you can't use, but may like to know, given that you are on my friends list, and may derive fulfillment from.
My life has been divided into three sections now. Section one is work, two is thesis, and three is my personal life.
Work is going well. I was put in charge of a large, but not super important, project. This has gone pretty well. I was given a review this week, even though it's not like a real review, because I wasn't there long enough. I was compared very favorably to another very successful SE, so that was pretty awesome. I've been working pretty hard, but not pretty long. I worked about 97.5% fo the target goal last month, which is totally acceptable on their end. I would have liked it to be around the 110% of the month before, but...
Thesis is rolling along as well. I shipped off a chapter that was... 15 pages? Single spaced but with figures. It was basically a rewrite of the very first thing I wrote. It was pretty bad, as I now know with my years of experiance writing this one stupid thesis. I really want to be done. I've got about half a chapter to go.
Home life is going pretty well. Obviously, I don't have a ton of it, between working 40-45 hours a week and I don't know, 15 hours a week on thesis maybe? It's kind of nice to do some financially frivolous thing, like getting new glasses since my prescription changed about 6 months ago, replace my failing computer, getting an MRI to figure out what's going on with my knee and if there's anything that can be done for the chronic pain, etc
I can also start the slightly more extensive low carb diet. If this is the point where you want to go ahead and tell me about all the evils of a low carb diet, please kindly stuff it. It's been discussed with a doctor. It's worked in the past until I've had to break the diet because of the reduced time and stress of finals. It will continue to be monitored by a doctor.
I, uh, really need to loose weight. Every week (maybe every sunday), I'll be posting on here with my current weight, and if I hit my dietary goals for each day. If you would like to be able to see that, post here, and I'll add you to the custom list. If you don't care, I'm not too concerned.
Also, I've started drinking some real gourmet coffee out of a french press, brewed from beans that were ground that day. Fortunately, my wife is making the coffee.
I have issues before I have my coffee. I got some of what should have been a nice, smooth, chocolaty Costa Rican bean a month ago from a local roaster in town. Unfortunately, they roasted the beans to french and called it a full city roast. As this is a bean that should be city roasted at most, I won't be going back there again. I found a retailer on line that had very good prices on some mexican beans that require a city roast, and I've been meaning to try some of this type. They should be arriving this monday. For now, I'm subsiding on a very palatable mix of the above Costa Rican and a city roasted guatamalan from the supermarket.
Oh, I've been trying to go for a walk every day that's warm enough and not raining, which is about 3 or 4 days a week. We live right on the Mississippi, next to a very small island. The island is a state park, and it's got a walking trail that's probably a third of a mile, and a bbq grill, and about nothing else. It seem strangely Ohio vally-esque back there, with a lot of old growth trees, stagnant water in protected coves, and litter. It's nice.
