unrelated: been rocking the ill-funk/hard-soul/semi-psychedelic cd a lot lately and it's been ruling me real hard. thanks again. i've been back in the habit of using my CD changer and i've been rediscovering some good things again.
The Nag Hammadi codices were discovered in 1945, and became public in 1975. I read the Gospel of Thomas in "The Gnostic Bible," edited by Willis Barnstone and Marvin Meyer, published in 2006.
Verse 29 in the Gospel of Thomas goes like this:
Yeshua said, The Pharisees and the scholars have taken the keys of knowledge and have hidden them. They have not entered, nor have they allowed those who want to enter to go inside. You should be shrewd as snakes and innocent as doves.
I read the Bible rather closely for a class on the religion and western culture, and realized that it's actually quite a good read. I like the imagery.
I just did part of my thesis on the Gnostic Gospels (mainly Thomas, Truth, and Philip). So much of it is so weird and beautiful and cryptic and oddly insightful.
