Does anyone ever feel weirded out when others say to you, "If only there was a male/female version of you!" Now granted this usually comes in the form of a borderline flirtatious/complimentary comment. But either way- why associate a gender with my characteristics at all? "Well, if only you were other!" Sounds like the perfect response for me to use! ^_^

Initially it's meant to come off as a nice comment, but I don't believe they recognize the boundaries that are created. It doesn't OFFEND me deeply to be declined indirectly in the guise of a compliment. But, if I wasn't seeking out the person out of attraction, it makes their comment ... awkward and unnecessary?

Yeah, I dun think I've been told that before either, but I'd imagine they are strongly to one end of the Kinsey scale and don't like to imagine you having characteristics of their unfavored gender.

That's actually a good point, I never really saw it under the scope of the Kinsey scale which is relevant. Which would make it more of a "snark" rather than a "compliment"?
