Prompts from 30_distractions.

1. Silence

Natalie had left.

Jason knew the reasoning behind it, and he'd tried to stop her. He'd tried to be someone who could keep her there, but it hadn't made a difference. She'd gotten scared, and she'd found another job.

Even though he'd started working at the Apothecary long before she'd taken the job, there was a lingering emptiness now that she was gone. His brewing didn't hold the same joy that it had before she'd worked there, and there was just something...

"...it's too quiet in here." He talked to himself now, because he was the only one there. Stating that fact out loud only cemented the words, and he stood. It was too quiet?

He would do something about it. It was time to go bring Natalie back.

2. The joys of family

His sisters were the apples of his eye. Nothing could have touched the hairs on their head without going through Jason, because while he was spacy when it came to almost everything else... there was nothing spacy about his protection over Emily and Anne.

Every year, he went home for the holidays.

Seeing them changing over the years brought a perspective to him. The first time that Emily ever talked about liking a boy, he felt a system shock -- but then she laughed at the look on his face and assured him that she wasn't to that stage yet.

His sisters were rotten little bints, and he loved them to death.

3. Arguments

He'd had a lot of arguments with his previous girlfriend. In fact, he'd argued so often with her that he'd started to think that a functioning relationship needed arguments.

So when he started to think of Natalie as more than a friend? He pushed those feelings back. He never argued with her -- they diffused each other's anger with such ease that they didn't feel the need to actually fight. Playful arguing wasn't the same thing.

After a while, he decided that he'd been wrong.

They had one argument. It was an argument that was stemmed from frustration and insecurities. An argument that they would never repeat.

"Natalie, I will never leave you!" he told her, over and over again, until finally, she started to believe it. Their one argument, and he decided that he didn't need to fight to be able to love someone. He loved her, and he couldn't argue with that.

4. Horny

Jason was horny.

There was no other way to word it, because he just was. Every time he tried to think about other things, his mind kept going back to his need for sex. He apparently needed a distraction.

The moment that he thought that, Natalie appeared in the doorway. She'd been reading a book in the sitting room while he'd been cooking dinner (but really, his mind hadn't been on dinner at all). And what perfect timing she had!

His smile couldn't have looked more mischevious as he strode over to the doorframe that she'd leaned against. Without letting her say one word, he wrapped an arm around her waist and leaned down, capturing her lips in a hot kiss that spoke volumes about what his mind had been on.

A moment later, he'd pulled back from the kiss, and she'd leaned back against the wall, looking up at him with an amused grin. "You're the best distraction," he murmured, leaning down to kiss her again.
