do people *hate* music now??? playing music seems to have some sort of weird stigma attatched to it now, like people want to assume that you're an idiot and that your band sucks before you've even got a chance to open your mouth

People can be weird. They can personally identify with music that makes them feel "unique and special" and stand out from the homogeneous masses and they want everyone to know it (person becoming the music), then when there may be a band that is unique and special (and the music is the person(s)), they are extremely critical. Who cares? Droom rules!! :D
Something that I realized in the music scene is that many people are so barraged with bad music that their defenses go up automatically before they hear music. It's an uphill battle. Just keep making good music and eventually enough people will notice and tell their friends and hopefully keep growing your fanbase. :)
ha. i always bitch about this sort of thing. the people that automatically hate what their friends like because its not angry enough, they think it makes them look cooler, when it just makes them look stupid. your either a music fan or your not. and to only limit yourself to 15% of whats out there, your just a fake.
hahaha! 15, it's usually more like 2 but yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
"I only like music that was made in this city and was released on this label between this year and that year by people using these instruments, sporting these clothes and these special haircuts..."
we really want to tour new-england and the eastern seaboard, but we still have to work it out so that we can do it without losing a few thousand bucks. it's really unfortunate that there are so many flaky promoters and dj's out there that it becomes difficult to figure out who's for real and who's full of ____.
we're still trying to sort out our lineup. we're trying to find a bass player and a percussionist, but everyone in our vicinity is either:
a. unreliable b. on a completely different page musically, or c. a pompous jerk.
we WILL tour out there, but it will be a matter of time until we do. I will promise this however, we will make it worth the wait!
