If I have someone eat:
ice-cream garnished with chocolate topping, Twinkies, syrup, and Snickers Bars

...ignoring how completely ridiculous that combination is, do the individual items listed sound like things you'd have in California?

Or do I need to change some of them?

Ice cream topped with Twinkies? *is horrified* Yeah, they'd have those things, although as other people have said, specifying the type of chocolate topping and syrup (chocolate sauce? raspberry syrup?) would be good.

Thanks!

Ice cream topped with Twinkies? *is horrified*

*grins*
Bear in mind, this is a character whose favourite kind of pie I have previously listed as "cheesy pineapple custard surprise". And everyone thought that was pretty much in character, given what she ate on the show. She has weird tastebuds...

Her tastebuds do indeed sound troubling. But, Twinkies are huge! Wouldn't "Twinkies topped with ice cream" make more sense? *flails*

It's... um... a really big bowl. Yep.

(Or something like that.)

That's completely nast. Just, you know, for the record. ;D

Anyway, yeah, all are perfectly appropriate, though you might want to think about that whole maple syrup/chocolate sauce thing mentioned upthread.

Generally speaking someone from America wouldn't use 'garnished' when referring to casual desserts (it's a very formal word here). They'd just say 'with' or 'topped with'.

Thanks, that's useful to know.

If I were saying this list in casual conversation I'd call it 'chocolate syrup' (the stuff in our fridge is labeled 'Hershey's Syrup') and then 'maple syrup.' I wouldn't think it was too odd to hear it called chocolate sauce, although that would make me think it has a thinner consistency. (Hershey's syrup is fairly thick.)

if you wanted to make it a bit easier on yourself re: topping/syrup, hot fudge is similar and often used (incorrectly) as a synonym for any chocolate ice cream topping. And maple syrup on ice cream is possibly one of the ickiest things I have ever contemplated. ew.

Earlier this week I was offered ice cream topped with any of the following: caramel sauce, pineapple slices, peanuts, croutons, sweetcorn.

(I decided to stick with the apple pie)

Croutons? Sweetcorn? Really?

That's horrifying. Intriguing, but horrifying.

Caramel sauce and peanuts, I can see. Maybe the pineapple slices. But the others? *shudder*
