Omg youre so sceeeene! How dare you belong to a group of people that look similar! I hate that! You should look like me not everyone else, even though I look like 90% of Americas population, I hate that you look very similar of the .5%! Why can’t you be original like I am? How dare you belong to a subculture that I obviously know everything about from going though 14 year olds myspaces! I can respect punk because well, that happened in the 70’s and it’s wildly excepted and understood now, but if I lived back then, I would have hated it just like I hate hardcore! It’s not cool! Isn’t that what you want to be cool? Well it’s not! Up with mainstream easily understandable crap!
Even though I don’t consider myself scene, hardcore, xcoolx or whatever, I get tired of being called one as a forum of attack. Seriously, do you think I don’t realize my music and look is widely unaccepted? Do you think I get up in the morning thinking, “hey if I make my hair really big today people will love me!” No. I get made fun of all the time, but I do it because it makes me happy. I do it because it’s the only way I can feel comfortable with the way I look. The fact people hate it actually makes it more appealing. Being able to make some one genuinely pissed by the way I look is an amusing, powerful thing. It’s funny to see people just go on and on about it, like I personally offend them. Being able to say fuck you by the way I dress is a lot easier and more creative than saying it with words.
I agree going to a show and seeing herds of people dressed in tight pants, studded belts, and a black hoodies gets old, but would you complain when you go to a party and every preppy girl and guy is dressed in a name brand shirt and ripped jeans? No you probably look just like them. But did you start that look? No you saw it on someone else and decided that would look fit you, so you took in on. There is no such thing as originality! Everything you can think of to do with your hair and clothes has been done before to some extent. You just have to decide what you like and roll with it. Find a close group of people who don’t look the same, it doesn’t happen. Gangsters dress like gangsters, punks dress like punks, preps dress like preps, it all about caring it off with your own twist. It didn’t start out as, wear this to be hardcore or scene, but just like punk, it’s what’s taken place. It’s just what happens when the biggest role in your life looks a certain way. It influences you and even though you don’t say “I’m going to start looking the those guys today because I like there music, attitude, and message” it’s just enviably happens over time. Stop thinking you’re original and hating people because to you, they’re not. It’s all perspective baby.
Get over yourself. Stop judging people and be a little opened minded, you might actually learn something.
