I welcome the newest member of my Nepenthes collection, an enormous Nepenthes 'Miranda', a complex hybrid cultivar that I believe has been around since the Victorian fascination with Nepenthes. The hybrid has the following lineage: Nepenthes maxima × (maxima × northiana).

Sorry to intrude on a strangers blog, but I'm excited to finally know which cultivar my new pitcher plant is! I received it as a gift from a friend who knew I "liked weird plants" without a tag, naturally, and this is *identical* to mine! marvelous!

Glad to know an old post on this blog helped :-)

Yes, there's a lot of N. maxima in there, but it grows like the lowland N. northiana, which is perfectly suited to my kitchen in the winter.

I just call her Miranda, of course, but won't my face be red if she turns out to be a male when she finally decides to flower.

I just assumed mine was male and named him "Rutherford" to compliment the nice smooth pitchered "Winston"! I'm struggling to get them the humidity they need though, lots of bright sun for pretty bronzed leaves, and a Vicks humidifier running 16 hours a day! But they're totally worth it I think! Especially when my neighbors grandkids ask after them in the summer! Ooooh plants that eat bugs! :D
