The fact that she refers to the individual as a "cholla," although misspelled, exhibits her distaste for the individual, therefore making it a "bad thing."
Since you so dilligently researched the term and all of its possible meanings and social signficance, I can't argue with the facts. However, I would be hard-pressed to believe a priveleged white person using any derogatory-turned-prideful term around any of those aforementioned persons would not be scolded or reprimanded.

Since you so dilligently researched the term and all of its possible meanings and social signficance, I can't argue with the facts.
