As much as Meredith's still less than pleased about the whole forced silence and all it entailed, in at least one way, it's worked out; she's definitely thinking less about what it means that Sean's living with her or why that worried her before. She's still troubled by all of it, but if the downside of living together is that he can leave, the ( Read more... )

Sean's vague unease with the situation hasn't really let up any in the past few days, but with the fact that he's already nearly screwed it up once still looming large over him, it's easy enough to chalk it up to that and focus on the good parts, unencumbered by worry, and there are more then enough good parts to keep him busy for a long while. Things like having Meredith slide into bed next to him after a long night alone, something that only gets better as he slowly trains himself out of the habit of jerking awake at the slightest provocation.

"Hey," he says quietly, laying on his stomach as he opens his eyes and rests his arms under his head to see her a little better. "Have a good night?"

"Long," Meredith corrects, head near his arm as she lies on her side, "and boring." She's used to it in theory, since nearly every shift is like that, but in practice, it doesn't get easier. It's not like she's ever needed help feeling useless. Still, whatever else is going on, however unsatisfying a turn her career has taken these last couple years, there's something soothing about moments like this, hushed and more peaceful somehow than the quiet of the clinic. "Which is probably good. You?"

"'Bout the same," Sean replies, making a face before he tilts his head slightly in some approximation of a shrug. These days, it seems like she's about the only thing that separates peaceful from boring, and he has to wonder if he should maybe resent that more than he does. Then again, it isn't as if it would do him any good if he did. "This is prob'ly the highlight, right here, all told. Ye tired?"

Meredith shakes her head, a little rueful about that. It would be so much better if she were, if she had reason to be, if she hadn't had a chance to rest. Sometimes it feels like she'll find a way to be at peace with everything about this place but that. "I wish," she admits. "But no, I slept, I'm up. Lying down, but I'm up. Did I wake you?"
