You Wouldn't Like Me

Meredith just stands where they leave her for a few moments after Sean and Lexie go, willing herself to be a little calmer. Under her cold exterior, she's frazzled, and now that she's on her own, it's hard to keep that under the surface. She heads outside to check on the dog, which turns into playing with Doc, and somehow, throwing his stupid toy ( Read more... )

Home sweet home, such as it is. With Lexie safely out of their bed and into to the hands of a council member, there are few places else that Sean would rather be, and none of the others are anywhere close to Tabula Rasa. He stopped for a cup of coffee in the kitchen before coming back, but without anything to put in it, it's really only made his headache worse, and he can't fight his annoyance at coming into the bedroom to find Meredith burrowed back underneath the covers.

Meredith doesn't want to move, not even for him. She doesn't want to think, doesn't need a reminder of all that, like she can even begin to get it out of her head or focus those thoughts into anything coherent. She stays still under the blanket for a few moments, silent, before forcing herself to pull it back and glance over at him, still sullen. What she would like is to be mad at him, just to have someone to take all this out on, but it's not even close to being his fault.

"I've got nothing else to do today," she says, "so why not?" She sighs, back to looking blankly at the sheet. "Thank you. For taking her."

"What else was I gonna do?" Sean asks with a shrug, sitting on the bed and reaching out to rest a hand where he estimates her knee should be. "Would've been a dereliction o' me duties nae to." Not to mention kind of nasty, but then, that doesn't always tend to stop him.

"She could have found it on her own," Meredith says, but she smiles a little anyway at the way he puts it and the familiar, comforting weight. It's not her duty, anyway. The girl's nothing to her but a nuisance. Stifling a yawn against the back of her hand, she turns a little to look up at him. "Well, at least it's done with."
