In the days after, Meredith is all nervous energy. Tempted to skip everything and stay with Sean, she makes herself go to class, focus on lessons. Coming into the clinic is easier, since, for the week or so after Sean's hurt, she spends most of her time there anyway. She is, she imagines, getting on the other doctors' nerves, but she doesn't really ( Read more... )

It was an odd sort of situation to have found himself in, Jamie thought, even if he'd anticipated making this visit over a month ago. Christmas morning had seen a couple of far-fetched possibilities become absolute reality, after all, and while he'd had enough foresight to plan for at least one of those possibilities, however unlikely it had seemed in the past, he'd decided in the past week that he could probably plan better. Now that his and Layla's relationship had finally overcome its last physical boundary, pregnancy was a very real concern, and the protection they'd been using wasn't infallible. While a part of him wasn't entirely sure he was even fertile -- he'd never conceived a child in the traditional sense of the word -- he'd rather be safe than sorry, for Layla's sake as much as his own. "If it's any measure of assurance, he made it through the last time something comparable happened at home," Jamie replied, brows arching. After a moment of considering the chair, he sat down, and leaned back, crossing one foot over his knee. That hadn't been the easiest time for any of them, granted; Paris had lain in ruins once they were done with it. "He's tough... Stubborn. He'll pull through."

"He will," Meredith said, nodding, "I know. It's not easy, but... we'll get through it." Just the same as with everything else they had survived in the last year, she figured. It might not be pretty, but they'd make it. She wouldn't accept any other possibility. Glancing up, she offered him a half-hearted smile. "So how can I help you?"
