After all that waiting, once it happens, it happens so fast that Meredith's head is just about spinning after the fact. It happens far too quickly for her to care at all about gathering everyone together for the ceremony itself. She's never really been one for a big wedding, even when she knew more people. In the end, the only people this is really ( Read more... )

One wedding, in a couple of hours, without powers. Hell, maybe we've still got it. We'd have been lucky to pull it off back home with everyone's mutations intact.

Probably because there'd be more of a chance of some of us throwing down and destroying the place the ceremony's being held. We talk about how surprising there's less destruction at these events a lot, but that's because it is surprising.

If we keep this up, though, maybe we'll finally bring the average down and be able to stop saying that.

Not that we will.

For now, though, it's the important part of the wedding. The part where I find the booze, and enjoy that my lack of a healing factor means I can take my time with it, instead of gulping it down to overload my own system.

Drink. She needs a drink. Not that she's planning on getting drunk, but sometime after saying hello to everyone it dawned on her that of the last few weddings she'd been to, one ended in... well, it ended and the other was crashed by a small Shi'ar armada. Not that she expected either to happen but the point was, while she was happy as hell that Sean and his love were married, she was kinda praying she didn't jinx it.

She'd seen too much in her life to fully believe in happy endings anymore. No matter what she told others.

Seeing Logan by the alcohol is as unsurprising as it is welcome. "What's on tap tonight?"

"Tabula Rasa Brew," I say. "Didn't have time to source a good Canadian beer."

Not that what they make on the island is bad. They do pretty well for a magic island in a pocket whatever it is. Emphasis on the for the.

Still, I've never been picky, and I'm not about to start.

Rachel gave the obligatory, mock-horror expression, complete with a hand pressed to her chest. "How terrible! Well, I'm just never drinking here again."

It was made all the more mocking by her pouring a tall glass while she spoke, the smile on her face not leaving as she hung around, standing close to her friend.

"Don't worry, I'm sure there will be case after case for you when the island does its happy holidays thing."

Given the speed with which everything took place, Lexie can't help but find it still a little surreal, even after all's said and done and Meredith and Sean are - holy crap - married. Granted, of course, she always knew it would happen eventually, but knowing a thing in theory is different than it actually happening, let alone getting to witness it. She might not know why, exactly, Meredith chose to come to her, but she sure as hell isn't going to question it when she's so grateful for it, almost relieved. Somehow, everything managed to work out just right, and rushed or not, she thinks it's pretty perfect.

It's been a little while now, but she's still in the dress she managed to coax out of the box by some miracle as she stands around the yard afterwards, drink in hand. There's no rush to get anything done, not anymore, and she has every reason to want to let this last.

It's been a hectic day, and being on the other side of it, seeing how well it's all worked out, only makes Sean all the more appreciative of those who helped to pull it all together. "Well, I'd say that went off pretty well," he says to Lexie, raising his own glass in a casual sort of toast. They've had their awkwardness in the past, haven't always seen eye-to-eye on things, but none of that matters for the time being. They're family, after all. "Thanks f'r all yer help."

"Oh, no, I was glad to do it, really," Lexie says, raising her own glass a little in turn, smile broadening. God, it's weird to think of Sean as being her brother-in-law now, but if nothing else, it makes her all the more inclined to ignore whatever difficulties they've had in the past. Today of all days, she doesn't have it in her to be anything but pleased. "It came together pretty well, didn't it? Considering how quickly it happened."

"It was perfect," Sean says, and casual gratitude gives way to something a lot more open and heartfelt for that one quick second. "All of it, I mean it. I cannae imagine it goin' better, ye really came through."

Amy was fairly certain that this was how weddings were meant to go. Of course there was nothing wrong with her own wedding, once the Doctor had gotten it together and actually shown up. Her mum and aunt had nagged and fretted and Amy had skived off for quite some time before getting to the church.

But being told that there was a reception without having to sit through the vows and recitation was somewhat exciting. In fact she was a bit envious of Sean and Meredith and the fact that they'd just got on with it. Lucky bastards.

This was actually sort of fun. Plus the cake was actually fantastic. There was a lot say about having good cake.

"Glad t'see ye could make it on such short notice," Sean says as he rounds on Amy during one of his brief sojourns from Meredith's side. Married people making it work in this place aren't exactly in an overabundance, and even if Amy had the good fortune to arrive that way, she and the good Mr. Pond stand as a nice reminder that he hopefully isn't completely mad for doing this, anyway. "Was worried that there wouldnae be much of a party t'speak of f'r a spell."
