Honestly, I think it will help book sales. Some of these books are kinda obscure, and a lot of people don't even know that they exist. When you do a search on a certain subject, it will bring up books that you might not have known about, and that might make you want to buy it. The notion that google book search will destroy the publishing industry is as ridiculous as the notion that VHS would bring down the television networks. Besides, most people want to read actual books. Have you ever tried to read a whole book on the screen? Cause it sucks.

I don't think writers should care if their stuff is on google book search. I think it helps them. There is a big difference between the book search and Napster of Kazzaa. You can't download the books, or even copy and paste from them. And, even if you do use the search trick to view the whole book, who would want to go through all that to read a book in a crappy medium? If a person doesn't want to a buy a book they go to a library ( ... )

the "soul" of books? intellectual rights? authors putting themselves into the books? i think you ignore the author in all of this. as much as i'd like to think the author is dead and writing is pig shit and etc. it doesn't mean that everyone else does. writing can mean a lot to some people ( ... )

ah. i had read that google claimed to respect copyrights, but i was told otherwise by a usually reliable source. seeing multiple lawsuits sort of convinced me of it. woops.
