There's a lot of parades that go with it too, run by the old medieval trade and merchants guilds of Zürich, with people dressed up in frock coats and powdered wigs.
Unfortunately, I wasn't there with a camera for that part. Just for the bit where they blew up the personification of winter. :-)
Seems similar to the Burning Man Festival which they just held in the States recently (which of course is more involved and of much longer duration, but in the end they do burn a large wooden effigy).
