Simon was the sort of man who liked to say that he found pleasure in the little things. The cheerful family of pigeons that roosted on his balcony. The buy-one-get-one-free offer of Renat at the corner store. The persistent little plant that sprouted from the crack in the sidewalk. Simon loved all these things dearly and found them a strong testament to the random, wondrous beauty of life. He was someone who lived each day as if he was about to die the next. He was someone who was, quite simply, full of life. Every morning on his way to work he walked down the street humming a merry tune, and all sorts of adorable woodland creatures and skeevy drunks would follow him and bask in his aura of love and happiness, as if he was a beautiful fairytale maiden whose innocence was as white and blinding as the pure driven snow

"So...do you have any sort of teaching credentials?"
"No."
"A minor in education perhaps, or maybe you worked as a substitute teacher once...?"
"No."
"Have you ever even worked with kids before? Like, as a camp counselor or something?"
"No."
"So why are you inquiring about this job?"
Izaya Orihara took a prim sip from a cup of tea that he had magicked out of thin air and flashed him a winning smile. "Times are hard. You have to ask about anything you can." He set the cup down on the man's desk and batted his eyelashes, drawing his mouth into a seductive pout. The dimming fluorescent lighting above their heads finally gave out during the ensuing long, awkward, drawn-out silence, and the entire office was cast into eerie darkness. The man suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable, sitting across from some guy who was trying out some weird fishface on him. He thought about calling up security - but realised, in horror, that all the electricity in his office had gone out

Selty found she worked best in the dead of night, when the streets were deserted and not a soul could be found. There was just something so lovely about Ikebukuro at night. The flickering neon lights, the laughter of drunken party-goers stumbling down the street. All of that was gone right now, though. It was curiously black and empty, and there was no one in sight. And it was only about ten o'clock.
Shinny. I think there's been a blackout of some sort. There has been a blackout of some sort. ...SO WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME ABOUT IT BEFORE I LEFT? You didn't notice that our place was completely dark? I just thought you were being weird again. Actually, I'm TERRIFIED of the dark. That's why I enjoy cuddling with you on these sleepless nights. I wish you were here with me right now...your side of the bed is so lonely... ... <3 you, honey.Selty conveyed her exasperation to no one in particular by stomping on a can until it was completely flattened, and tossing the package she was carrying into the gutter. In all truthfulness, she wasn't

Mikado wasn't really sure what to make of all this. He stared uncomprehendingly at the blackboard and tapped his pencil nervously on his desk, and the only thought that was running through his mind at the moment was "At least he put on a nice shirt."
And Izaya had put on a nice shirt. It was white, a fifty-fifty cotton-linen blend. He had even added a pair of black slacks and dress shoes, too. And a tie. How charming

"Where are the scissors?" Walker asked. He gazed dreamily at the coupons promising fifty percent off an entree with the purchase of two appetizers. "Russia Sushi's having another great deal. Hey, Erika, go next door and snag another newspaper, there'll be more coupons in there..."
Erika looked up from her manga and giggled. "Dotachin! Can you get that for me?"
Kadota shifted slightly on the overstuffed couch and groaned. Not this. Not now. Fuck no. He was tired and weak and he ached all over from another eight hour car chase and all he wanted to do was lie there and sleep. Just sleep. Free himself from all the worries of the world. Relax. Well, now that Erika mentioned it, there was an leaflet advertising yoga hidden somewhere within that newspaper. Yoga was relaxing. Very relaxing. And that leaflet offered a nice deal. He should probably check it out

He wandered through the market, eyes roaming over the rows and rows of wondrous dead sea creatures with a knowledgeable keenness that could only be matched by the most seasoned of fishermen. He bargained smoothly with the fishmongers, dazzling them with his smile. He chatted up random restaurateurs who were awed by his lovely blue eyes and his encyclopedic knowledge of fish. He posed in photographs with tourists who had nothing better to do that meander through a fish market at four o'clock in the morning. And in the end, he left with a huge sack of yellowtail and an even huger smile on his face. This had been a wonderful way to start the day

At six-thirty Simon happened to notice Shizuo staring at him unblinkingly from across the park. He had just been taking in the natural beauty of Ikebukuro (and fending off a herd of deer, bunnies, and songbirds) when he caught a glimpse of the blond man in the corner of his eye. He waved him over merrily

Anon, words cannot begin to describe how amazing you are. Well, perhaps they could, but it is difficult to think of such divine words! You are so fantastic.
Everybody falls for Simon's Russian accent.
