Shizaya - "House feels empty" anonymous October 8 2011, 04:50:04 UTC
Shizuo and Izaya have been parents to six kids and when they all left for college etc, the two start to miss their babies and suffer from 'empty nest syndrome' Can be cracky but not super angsty. Can have Izaya sighing a lot, going to their kids room and lying on their bed, remembering happy mommy and kids times. Same for Shizuo as well, who misses his youngest kids the most because they were the last to leave (Tsuki and Roppi)

A!A from above here! This is such a beautiful bittersweet prompt, I simply had to fill it. I apologize in advance if it's angstier than OP wanted. I hope you still enjoy!
~~~
At one time, the house used to be rowdy. Izaya would pray and hope for just one second of quiet in this God forsaken apartment for a single moment to get some work done properly. Why he thought it would be a good idea to get Psyche DJ equipment, he couldn't remember. Something about pleading eyes and mindless begging for three months straight. How Izaya wished he could trade in an hour of that noise for an entire month of whining and clinging ( ... )
Izaya slipped into the kitchen, noting that Psyche's blasting music had stopped and that never meant any good. Tsugaru was sitting at the bar and glaring. Oh, children.
"Tsugaru, stop making that kind of face or somebody will pinch you from behind and you'll be stuck with it forever."
Nope. Still glaring.
Izaya turned his back to the fridge just to see if he had to make another trip with Shizu-chan to the grocery store today. They looked alright for now. When he turned around, Tsugaru's eyes snapped wide and Izaya was sure that he had swallowed a scream.
"That's no fun! Tsu-chan didn't even say anything," Psyche lamented, swirling out from behind. He shrugged and started to snicker. "But it's too late. He was born with papa's face!"
Papa. Really, what was that Shizu-chan doing besides leaving Izaya to handle everything? He separated Tsugaru and Psyche before they started fighting, sentenced Tsugaru to his room to air out the smell, and marched up to Papa ( ... )
Psyche attached to his waist now, he shook his head wildly from side to side. "I don't want to say goodbye ( ... )
With Psyche's absence, balance nearly returned to the household. It was empty in more ways than one. Izaya and Shizuo switched off on cleaning Tsugaru's and Psyche's rooms weekly just so that dust wouldn't build, but there was no longer clothes draping over Tsugaru's laundry basket or candy wrappers stuffed between Psyche's mattress ( ... )
Hibiya had been ready to leave since the second Delic stepped out of the door. They were only a year apart but Hibiya's heart had been absolutely smashed when his scores weren't good enough to skip a grade and leave with Delic. But now that the time had finally come to see his brother again, he wouldn't stop talking about how he would finally leave this destitute house, even when Psyche had indeed flunked out of school and brought Delic along with him. They had gotten involved with DJing at a nightclub in a city by the beach in the opposite end of the country. Hibiya cared nothing for music or sand between his toes but still he insisted on going wherever Delic was ( ... )
"Ten minutes," Tsukishima clarified, nearly at the same time. He was clinging onto Shizuo's sleeve with one hand and Izaya's with the other. He'd been holding on since they left the apartment. Of all their children, he had been the one most hesitant about leaving. It was Hachimenroppi who convinced him that he should move out and if anything happened, that he would be a mere train ride away ( ... )
It was the same, the first time and the last time. It was kind of like the first time Izaya had held Tsugaru. An entirely new world of wonder opened up as he held the small bundle of white sheets. He could feel the hot tears rolling down his face but he knew he was smiling and Shizuo had never looked at him more lovingly than the first time he kissed Izaya after Tsugaru was born ( ... )
He'd been working a lot more lately, Izaya noticed. Shizu-chan was smarter than he thought but what made it worse was that he made the decision without even realizing it. Shizuo said it was just because he wanted to make some extra money so he could mail care packages every now and then but in doing so, Shizuo properly occupied his time enough to distract him from the constant wallow of loneliness that swallowed Izaya no matter where he went ( ... )
Every spot in the household was just as bad, especially the couch. Whenever Izaya looked at the worn out piece of furniture, he remembered how the boys would trample all over the fixture while fighting for the remote. And then there was the bi-yearly night of piece where everybody piled onto the couch to watch Kasuka's latest film. The eight of them had fit comfortably on that couch at first but eventually Tsugaru and Delic branched out to the floor when they got too big. Hibiya refused to give up his spot on Shizuo's lap to Hachimenroppi or Tsukishima no matter how big he got and Psyche made a point of stretching over the entire couch, not caring much for whoever's lap he managed to lay on ( ... )
For what felt like the first time in ages, Izaya successfully returned home feeling fulfilled. It wasn't just a matter of his job or distracting himself or becoming comfortable with the idea that his children were gone. He was accepting it slowly, getting closer each and every day to the fact that his children were out there living their lives without regret ( ... )
