Just remember, you are being compensated so well for those jobs because you are putting a dollar value on your safety. That said, I love looking at the want ads for nurses and just giggling to myself at the insane wages and the fact that there are bazillions of jobs out there.

Absolutely. It's interesting that around 1996, it was hard for some nurses to find jobs, because hospitals were laying off. I just met a nurse who graduated in '96 and couldn't find a job. The reason may have come from the severe cost-cutting by HMOs then, in which they got rid of RNs and replaced them with CNAs or LVNs.

I was also looking at business jobs in government contracts. Also huge pay.

I'm thinking of volunteer tutoring at a local prison.

Proof there's no nursing shortage. After CA prisons raised their pay of staff nurses, there are lots of nurses waiting in line to get hired!
