Adrian was stalling. A lot, actually. He knew he'd have to get on the train eventually, but he didn't want to. Going to India for the summer was rapidly losing its attraction.

He was far more attracted to the man, standing alone next to a couple of bags and trunks. But he couldn't just go over there and do what he wanted. SAy goodbye like he wanted to.

The trunks were already loaded, and time was running out.

Finally it looked like most of the other students had said goodbye and whatnot, and Adrian pulled himself together. Waiting wouldn't change the fact that Simon most likely would be leaving just after the train did. And that he even more likely wouldn't come back. Ever.

"Do you remember the shrinking charm for all your stuff so you can get all of it home?" Adrian asked softly, stepping up behind Simon.

Simon's eyelids sank closed for a moment at the sound of that ... beloved... soft deep voice.

He turned with a smile. They'd said their goodbyes the previous night... in his bed. He didn't think he'd see the tall Slytherin again... ever.

"Yes... but I don't want to lose track of it that small." The truth was he desperately hoped it's size and weight would attract an Intergalactic Hogwarts Express. He'd set them there as if to declare to whatever travel magic brought him here, I'm here! I'm ready to go!

"Have a nice train ride... then you're off to India?"

Adrian's lips tugged up into an answering smile, although he didn't feel much like smiling at all.

It wasn't fair.

"Well ... yeah." He glanced over at the train, then back at Simon.

"It's where my home is now." He shrugged, pushing away thoughts of what had been his home up until only 6 months ago.

"I hope you have a nice ride too."

Exchanging niceties, ey? It wasn't as if they could do much more!

If only he'd know that Simon would be here next year. Of course, why by Merlin's beard would the man want to come back, when he could work at far more interesting places where he originally came from?

I'd promise to write... but I hope to not be able to from where I'm headed... 500 years into the future...

He looked up into Adrian's green eyes. He'd purposely resisted getting to know the boy too closely, refrained from sharing too many plans and dreams. They'd never had a future... but they'd had a great year...

Adrian should get on the train.
Simon should say farewell to the other students.
But he couldn't stop staring into the those green eyes.
And he couldn't stop his hand finding and lacing his fingers into the slightly bigger hand.

"I'll never forget you, Adrian," he said in a voice choked with sudden strong emotion.

Madam Pomfrey didn't bother talking sense to the boy until early the next morning... of the day after all the students had left Hogwarts for the summer. She'd checked with the Headmistress that no, there were no scheduled departures for Simon Tam and to schedule one to Osiris was impossible.

"Wake up!" she called imperiously waving a thermos of hot cocoa under Simon's nose where he crouched, asleep, on the stoop next to a great pile of his belongings.

Simon grunted and looked up at his mentor balefully, but accepted a mug.

"Where's my train? I've met all my residency requirements. I want to go home now." He said it like it was her fault he was still here in this strange world.

His parents must be frantic by now... or worse they might have given up hope after not hearing from him for nearly a year. He had to get home!

"Well, Mr. Tam, I've been giving your plight some thought." She handed him a plate of eggs and toast.

"The Headmistress assures me that you're here to stay for the present, and certainly welcome to stay over summer. So I thought: wouldn't it be productive to study toward OWLS over the summer and see how many you could get before term started? Hm?"

Simon gratefully accepted the breakfast plate. He had a habit of getting absorbed by his studies in his room and missing meals.

Then he looked at her as though she were insane. "I should take OWLS? But why?"

A week later, on track with intensive tutoring plans in the major areas needed for Healing, Simon took a few minutes to write to his friend.

My Dear Adrian,

I didn't go home as I had planned after all. Madam Pomfrey has me on an accelerated learning schedule this summer with the promise that I'll get to sit for OWLs the week before term starts. I hope this letter gets to you. Everything else I've sent comes back unopened. To my parents, that is.

If I can pass OWLs, she's said I can take class with the 7th years and sit for NEWTs next year. Wouldn't that be smashing to be in some of your classes? Anyway, I hope you think so. I miss you and wish I could visit you in India. I'd love to see that interesting land, but mostly I'd like to see that interesting you... feel your touch., taste your lips, your skin...

Guess I'd better not write that sort of thing. Dunno who might end up reading it after all.

If I'm here next year, I surely look forward to seeing you. And if I'm not, well, have a great year. I really want to go back to my ( ... )

Adrian was out flying, when he realised he was being followed by an owl. He'd spent most of the last week in the air, actually. The only place where he could truly relax and pretend he was here on holiday, that he was enjoying himself ( ... )

Simon was elbow deep in potting soil, worms, and seedlings in Greenhouse 5 when an owl beat its wings at the door for attention. Professor Sprout let the owl in and Simon tried to set the seedling aside without damaging its tiny roots, and brush off the soil without losing any of the powerfully magic gaia worms. All the while the owl flapped about his head and shoulders, obviously excited about the burden it carried.

The Professor finished his potting for him while he read Adrian's letter. He's coming here? On the 10th?

Simon fairly vibrated the rest of the day through his Herbology work, his simultaneous creation of several third year potions, and his review of 4th year Transfiguration.

After wolfing down his dinner at the staff table in the huge empty hall, he skipped up to his room to write a return letter.

Adrian was already preparing for his trip to Scotland, packing the clothes he'd need, when an owl fluttered through his window and landed on the desk.

Quickly he went over to fish out a small heap of treats from one of the drawers. The owl hooted softly and held out the leg with the letter. Adrian took it and started reading, smile widening gradually.

Oh yeah, will and desire ... and it had worked in favour of him, of Adrian. To know that Simon felt like that, wanted him as much (if not more) as going home, gave him an incredibly warm feeling inside.

Jeevan's right... you're pining for him. Pathetic. But that didn't change the fact that he was filled with excited energy at the prospect of portkey'ing to Hogsmeade in only 3 days. He wouldn't quite admit it to himself, but he hoped Simon would be in Hogsmeade when they got there.

Pulling himself together and out of daydreams, Adrian sat down at the desk and wrote a quick reply.

Dear Simon ( ... )
