Every year for Rosh Hashanah my mother holds a gathering of the few family members we have left on our side of the country. She makes chicken tzimmes and ruthlessly embarrasses my brother and me. If I weren't here in Mayfield that's where I'd be right now. It's where I've been almost every Rosh Hashanah for as far back as I can remember.
I'm not particularly religious, but I do understand the importance of holding one's family close. To those who observe, happy Rosh Hashanah, l'shana tova.
