Ned woke up earlier the next morning with Harvey’s face an inch away from his, making him smile. He closed the gap and kissed Harvey sloppily and gentle, tasting like morning breath. Harvey smiled, his eyes still closed, “Good morning to you too.” They sat in silence for another hour, waiting for the alarm to go off. The pie maker got up first, Harvey hesitant on getting up. He laid watching Ned shed himself of the lawyer’s clothes putting his own on. Harvey remembered he had the day off as Ned handed him his phone off the floor. “I have the day off now, Jessica’s order.” He smiled to himself as Ned stuck his tongue out as he left the room to make breakfast. Harvey pulled Ned’s sweatpants from the bed and slid them on, grabbing his shirt off a pile. “Since you aren’t going to work, coffee or tea?” Ned asked as he set a tea bag in his mug. Harvey walked into the kitchen, leaning against Ned’s back. “Surprise me.” He whispered, wrapping his arms around the man’s hips. “Why must you always encourage me to stay home?” Ned asked, laughing softly. “I’m just good at what I do.” Harvey kissed down Ned’s spine, smiling. Ned spun around in Harvey’s arms, “Well I can’t stay today. Got a big case to solve, people to save; pie to be made.” Ned set his fist against his chest, “Scout’s truth.” Harvey couldn’t help but give a giggle and let the pie maker make breakfast. “I want waffles then.” He said plopping on the couch, flipping the news on. “So my sex is equal to waffles in your eyes?” Ned asked already in the process of getting the waffles together. “You’re the waffle of my eye sweetie.” Harvey said, not looking up from the TV. Ned smiled as he filled the waffle iron. Harvey flipped through until he found his cartoons and sunk deeper into the couch, spacing out. Ned fixed the tea for the both of them and walked to the living room, sitting closely next to Harvey. “I guess Scooby really couldn’t wait, could he?” Ned asked taking a sip of his tea. Harvey nodded, his eyes glued to the TV, too absorbed to pay any attention to anything else. The waffle iron dinged back in the kitchen, sending Ned back to the kitchen to get breakfast. He took out the waffles and plopped them on plates, throwing butter and syrup on them. He walked back to the living room before Harvey noticed. “Here you are.” The pie maker said, setting the plate on the table. Harvey thanked him with a kiss on the cheek and sat up enough to grab the plate before sinking into the TV and solving his mystery. Ned finished his waffles and tea by the time the next episode came on, checking the time. “Alright, I have to go to work now. Love you.” He said getting up and pecking Harvey on the head. He set his dishes in the sink and left downstairs to the Pie Hole. Olive was waiting outside when he got there. “Have a late night?” She asked as he unlocked the door. “Actually quite the opposite, Harvey wanted waffles this morning so I was a little late. Sorry about it.” He said, grabbing his apron off the hook and setting his supplies ready. “Oh you’re fine. I slept a lot better than I thought with Chuck there. She’s not that bad at night. Very quiet and tired. She even made breakfast this morning.” She said, putting her stuff behind the counter and walked around turning on the lights. “Can you believe it’s already December?” Ned liked Olive, he did, but she was determined to talk constantly. Ned wondered as he prepared the pies, what it would be like if there was only eleven months in the year instead of twelve when Olive snapped in his face trying to pulling him back into present. “Are you all here today?” She asked. He blinked briskly and smiled, “Yeah sorry about that. I was thinking about months of the year.” She gave a laugh and the bell at the front of the store rang out, making Olive spring toward the front. When Ned was by himself in the kitchen again he started thinking about Harvey and about Chuck that is until Emerson’s voice rang through the pie hole. He finished off his pie, sliding it in the oven and walked to the front of the restaurant. He waved as he sat in the booth taking a moment to read Emerson’s facial expression. “Ned. Sit down; I need to talk to you.” Emerson’s voice wasn’t exactly stern as it was, forceful to the air. Ned smiled weakly and wondered what sort of things he would yell at him about. “Ned, Olive told me about how Chuck is living with her now. Would someone like to explain that to me?” He said. Ned gave a hopeless chuckle and cleared his throat. “Well according to Olive it’s going quite well.” Emerson hit himself in the forehead; he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He tells the boy to get rid of her and what does he do? Move her in the apartment next door with his friend. He just stuck his hand up when Ned opened his mouth and ate his pie. Ned stood up from the table and retrieved his pies from the oven and set them out. He was standing against the counter waiting for the detective to come in and solve the case. Emerson called his name and he hung up his apron. The pie maker and the private detective walked silently to Emerson’s car, headed to see Chuck’s aunts.
Harvey was in the apartment finishing up his marathon of Scooby-Doo and was stuck wondering what Ned was doing. He got up and washed the dishes in the sink, then walked into the bedroom and picked up the clothes, getting laundry together. For some reason the only time Harvey wanted to clean was after sex when he was stuck by himself. He managed to do all the laundry, clean up the whole house and do some work after, he sighed. He decided to watch a movie, picking from Ned’s shelf. He got all ready to watch Thor when Ned called him, “Hello my pie making prince.” Ned smiled and cleared his throat after Emerson shot him a look. “Hey, what are you up to?” Harvey tossed a handful of popcorn in his mouth. “About to watch Thor, fighting crime like a good pie man?” He laughed to himself and made Ned blush. “I am I’m out now following a clue and that sort of thing.” Emerson elbowed him in the side, “Actually Emerson wanted me to ask you a question about law.” Harvey raised his eyebrow, “You got in trouble didn’t you?” Ned gave a chuckle. “No, no nothing like that. Well okay maybe something like that. Is it illegal to hold a-“He was met by what sounded like a lot of glass breaking. “Ned, what are you doing?” He asked, his tone a mix of worry and annoyance. “Well Emerson just threw someone through a window because they had a gun on us.” Harvey took a deep breath and sighed, making sure Ned could hear it. “You’re alright, yeah?” He asked. “Oh yes, especially now.” Ned said. “Well then, I’m going to go. I guess I’ll see you soon.” Harvey hung up and shook his head. He played his movie and focused clearly on the screen. Ned glanced at his phone and shrugged. Emerson was already downstairs pinning the murderer to the ground and calling the cops. Ned followed his path down the stairs, sending a pathetic wave to Chuck’s confused aunts. “Emerson got him, no worries. The police are on their way.” Ned scurried outside of the house trying to avoid any other awkward confrontations he would have. “Emerson, the cops just pulled up. Can we head out now?” All the sudden Ned was overwhelmed. Emerson nodded and pulled the passed out man along to hand to the cops. “Here you are. I expect cash at my office tomorrow morning.” The two of them walked to the car and rode back to the pie hole silently. “I’ll see you soon and thanks.” Emerson said when Ned shot out of the car back into the Pie Hole. “Hey Olive, everything go alright while I was out?” He didn’t actually care but he figured he’d ask. Olive turned around and looked at Ned, “Yep. How’d it go with Emerson?” Ned gave her a so-so hand and smiled weakly. She raised an eyebrow but forgot about it going back to the cleaning before yawning and turning around to look at the baker. He looked distracted and distant as he cleared the kitchen, “Well I’m about done now so, I’m going to head out. Chuck and I have plans so I’ll see you in the morning okay?” Ned looked over as he heard Olive speak quietly, he smiled and nodded. “Good night Olive.” She waved as she left, to be friendly. He went back to his business really hoping that Olive and Chuck wouldn’t get too close so that if something did happen Olive wouldn’t be too heartbroken. Right as he finished his phone started ringing; Harvey was calling to check on him. “Hey I was just finishing up downstairs…” he started to trail off as he heard the door ring. “Okay well I’m going to start dinner, so hurry along.” Harvey chuckled, hanging up as he scurried around the kitchen. Ned looked at his guest as he phone slipped out of his hand onto the counter. “Hi.” There in the doorway stood, well a stranger and it made Ned’s eyebrow raise, “I’m sorry but we’re closed.” She waved her hand off as she walked around, taking a look at everything closely. “I’m not here for food just checking you see, bye now.” And with that the strange woman left the Pie Hole, leaving Ned more confused than before. He walked toward the door shutting off all the lights behind him and locking up.
He walked upstairs to his apartment when he ran into Olive and Chuck; they were too busy to say much other than, “Hi Ned!” and “We’re kind of in a hurry so I’ll talk to you later.” He shrugged it off and walked into his apartment taking in a whiff of Harvey’s delicious cooking. He walked into the kitchen, wrapping his arms across Harvey’s chest and kissing his cheek, “Smells good and the food too.” The lawyer chuckled and tilted his head to kiss Ned’s soft lips. “Go sit down, I’ll be there in a minute with our dinner.” Ned nodded before smiling again and walking to the table, tapping his fingers. Harvey wasn’t far behind as he carried two plates on one arm and a bottle of wine in his other hand. He set it all down and popped the cork, pouring two glasses before sitting down. “You know if the law thing doesn’t work out, you’d make the prettiest waiter.” Ned laughed as he took a small swig of wine back. Harvey gave a sarcastic laugh, smiling still and diving into his dinner. Ned smiled too and started eating, the table starting to get quiet. Harvey looked up at the baker as he ate with a steadily slower speed and raised an eyebrow, “So how did your day go?” Ned looked up between bites and shrugged, “It was alright, solved another case and baked some more pies. A normal one.” He smiled weakly trying not to think about the strange woman that showed up before he left or about Chuck and Olive’s newly developed friendship. Harvey could tell by the way Ned was distracted that he had a long and weird day, weirder than usual but he didn’t think it was good to dwell on it. They finished dinner silently and drank half the bottle of wine before Ned stood up, walking toward the stack of records searching for a specific one. He pulled it out and smiled, he cracked open the record player setting the dusty black disk on the table. The pie maker set the arm of it down, music filling the apartment and making him smile warmly. The familiar sound of soft jazz music made Harvey look over and watch Ned carefully, his body relaxed knowing he was smiling. He stood up as he finished his glass and put his hand around Ned’s waist, he swayed the two of them slowly keeping in tempo with John Coltrane’s smooth saxophone. Ned rested his head on the lawyer’s shoulder and moved along, lacing his fingers with his. They didn’t say anything, they didn’t need to. The music kept the mood very mellow, letting Harvey pick up how Ned was feeling. Ned’s eyes were closed and his head was nuzzled against the lawyer’s neck as they started to slow their swaying as the song ended. Harvey looked at him and whispered softly, trying to get his attention. But he kept his eyes shut and his feet moving in a lazy pattern around Harvey’s. He sighed and continued to dance as a piano solo started another song, sounding familiar to him. He chuckled and hummed, recognizing it as ‘My Favorite Things’ starting to sing to himself as he picked up the speed they were dancing. He smiled as Ned’s eyes cracked open, it was probably his singing but Harvey didn’t stop. The lawyer let out, “These are a few of my favorite things!” Making him ignore the jazz and start his own Sound of Music play. Ned looked at him as he slid the two of them around the apartment, giggling along. “Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels, doorbells and sleigh bells, and schnitzel with noodles wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings, these are a few of my favorite things.” Harvey smiled as he sang, looking at Ned’s now blushing face. He kept on embarrassing his boyfriend as he finished his song. Harvey collapsed on the couch, Ned falling on top and they laughed together. The jazz was the only noise in the apartment again as the two men locked lips. Harvey looked up into Ned’s eyes and smiled largely, “Hello sunshine.” Ned looked down at him and gave him back a smile, Harvey seeing his man finally happy made him kiss him again. “So, interested in some dessert or would you like to practice our dancing again?” He propped his head up on a pillow and batting his eyelashes. Ned raised an eyebrow but nodded, “Dessert, I think I’ve had enough of your dancing now.” He chuckled and Harvey let out a dramatic sigh. “Everyone’s a critic.” Ned climbed off the lawyer and climbed back into his seat at the dining room table. The lawyer pranced into the kitchen pulling the ice cream out of the freezer he walked back and picked up their dishes leaving the bottle. He set them in the sink and went back, corking the bottle to put it away in the fridge. “Go to the couch, this is too classy for ice cream.” Ned nodded and walked back to the living room plopping on the couch. Harvey scooped the dessert in bowls, shoving spoons in and walking back to the couch. Ned took his bowl, letting Harvey scoot into his side, cutting on the TV. A marathon of the Back to the Future movies was on; making Ned smile and Harvey leaves it alone. He watches as the baker’s face lights up, eyes glued to the screen as his hand starts scraping little spoonfuls of ice cream. Harvey chuckled, shaking his head while he ate his own ice cream and watched as Doc panicked over the alternate time stream. Once the second movie ended Ned shook his head, pulling his attention back to Harvey who was beating Louis in a game of Words with Friends. “Use ‘zit’.” He whispered his head on the lawyer’s shoulder. Harvey cracked a smile and nodded as he dragged the appropriate letters to their spots, landing him a triple word score as he celebrated a small victory. Louis continuously lost to Harvey but never gave up and always challenged him to another. “He’ll never get tired of losing will he?” Ned asked meeting Harvey’s lit up eyes. He shrugged in response, giving a crooked smile and kissing the baker on the lips. “You taste like chocolate; always missing your mouth when you eat almost like you’re a five year old learning how to properly use utensils.” He chuckled, wiping off a little bit of chocolate from his chin and shaking his head. Ned gave him an apologetic smile and turned his attention back to the movie. Harvey went back to his game, winning another match and being instantly invited to a new one. He chuckles and shakes his head, Ned too glued to really notice. He picks up their bowls and takes them to the sink, washing them all slowly. Ned glances over and notices that Harvey looks distracted, wondering what he’s thinking about. Harvey’s mind wandered aimlessly as he rinsed and dried off the dishes putting them away. He checked the time and sighed, he figured he should go to bed a little earlier so he could be ready for the big news he was getting tomorrow. He walked back to the couch, scooped up his phone and kissed Ned on the cheek. “I’m going to bed.” Ned frowned but nodded, “I’ll probably be in there in a few minutes. Love you.” He smiled looking into Harvey’s eyes. Harvey smiled back, “I love you too, McFly.” He chuckled, heading to the bedroom his phone dinged and he chuckled again. He sent his next move and climbed into bed, plugging his phone in as yawned loudly. He laid against the wall, listening to Ned since he wasn’t in bed yet. He didn’t have a problem drifting to sleep with the mix of the wine and the food. Ned got lonely without Harvey there and picked up the apartment, setting his record back and fixing the couch before switching off the movie. He walked into the bedroom quietly and grabbed Harvey’s sweatpants since Harvey was still wearing his. He changed as quietly as he could before sliding into bed, Harvey shifting closer and lying on top of him. He smiled and kissed his forehead, running his hand through his hair. He fell asleep instantly with the lawyer on top of him, snoring quietly.
