Why is it called "Freedom"? When the price we pay for it is so high? Why do we yearn so fo something that is always paid for in blood? Because, in the end, who amoun us is truely free? Is it something that we can only have in varying defree's? When our loved ones, our young ones, die for our freedom to say how much we hate the war they are fighting to ensure that we even have the right to say we hate it. I believe that Freedom is an oxymoron. It is a novel idea and a nobel aspiration but it will never be fully realized. Not as long as there are people who rule over others or force their beliefs on others. Yes, we have many freedoms in this country, the most free of all nations; but even we have not acheived "true" freedom. We still persecute those we deem abnormal. People in this country who follow the Christian faith, do so blindly, with little thought to the fact that they're so called Gosspil wasn't written by Christ, and wasn't compiled until 300 years later. Not to mention, that it was written for the time period. Very little of what is in the bible can be applied to our own era. And yet, Christians of today hold fast to many of the teachings the men of that far off time say were the teachings of Christ, while completely disregarding others. Eaten any pork lately? Did you know that according to the bible, that is a mortal sin punishable by death? So is wearing polyester or any other blended materials. So was working on Sunday. Oh and Sunday? Not the original Sabbath, that would be Saturday, but it didn't fit in the world Emperor Constantine and his famous council (you know the guys who actually DID write the bible and shape the world as we know it today) wanted. And Christ's birthday? Surprise! Not even in winter. Try the first half of summer. It is amazing how the bible is used to validate some freedoms while eradicating others. Whoever is reading this, if your not already blasting me for what I just said about christianity, your probably wondering why my first entry in months is about Freedom and Religion. There are many answers to that question, that could take hours to fully explain. But in truth, you simply cannont discuss freedom without religion being brought into it because of how many freedoms that have been stripped away because of religion, and how very many have been gained as well. Freedom is something every human needs, to be able to live their lives as they see fit and faith is just as integral to the human psyche as freedom. While I personally do not put much stock in organized religion, I understand faith and the need for it and I respect it. However, what I don't understand and do not respect, is when people hide behind their faith in order to promote hate. All my life I've been taught that God is love. If you love someone that is God working thru you. If someone loves you, that is God loving you. To know love is to know God. Picking up the theme here people? GOD IS LOVE! So why, if that is true, is GOD used for HATE? Why do those who hate what they don't understand, hide behind Him and declare their hatred justified because it is His law it is in His book? Why do so many people die from hate in His name? Because, we project our own emotions and thoughts and beliefs and desires and values onto His message. We twist it and warp it to suit our needs and in the end his message of Love is raped and abused and no longer even heard or understood. And that is where freedom is lost. When we loose the message, we loose the FREEDOM to choose our path. LOVE or HATE? Acceptence or Ignorance? Tolerence or Intolerence? What path do you choose?
