Ohayo Con

Overall, I very fun time. The attendees were amazingly nice, and I already miss some of the friends that I have made.

Ohayocon Report

I left early Thursday morning. I decided united sucks. In order for me to claim my “free ticket voucher” from united for katsucon, had to pick up my ticket 24 after the reservation was made, at the airport. I went to the airport twice, only to find that they were too busy and sent me away. Oh… the gas lost. Finally, I picked up my Katsucon ticket when I left for Ohayocon.

I got there early and stayed at the holiday Inn. I hadn’t done a con in two months and I was started to have some precon anxiety. Was this the con going be the sigh that I shouldn’t do conventions anymore? That I have pushed my luck long enough? I stayed up until 6, sometimes printing, but mostly cause I couldn’t sleep.

Once I got to the convention center, I stored my bags under the artist alley table. I got one of the best locations in the entire place. Right in front of the dealers room! There was no art show, but I brought 4 framed pieces to attract attention. And they did. My “poker night in konoha” was my best selling piece. But the even cooler part, is now Naruto fans come by my table to chat with in. *smiles*

The people at Ohayocon were sooo nice! And very sweet! People would stop by my table to keep me company even if they didn’t want anything. I even traded a print for a drink run, and then later, for a professional massage. (such a good con idea) I met lost of awesome deviantartists too. I don’t think I got a negative comment at my table for the whole weekend. (when your in Artist Alley, it happens. We veterans just learn to deal with it, =P)

I had the most awesome gamer designer next to me. He would watch my table when I needed to leave periodically. Towards the end of the weekend, he teased that the next con he sees me at, he is making me a crown. People just would be so nice when they came up to my table. Someone also had me sign a Polaroid picture of myself. -I think that was when he first started to tease me.

I sold all but one of my “art show” pieces Friday. I asked that the people that bought the framed pieces leave them until Sunday. They were great eye catchers!

That night, I hung out with Toshi, Mike, Leia, her husband and a few more people in the bar for a bit. And later, in the Green room. I ended up not getting back to the room until about 8. (I had floors pace at Urd-Chan’s ) Then I started to print quietly in the bathroom for a while. Before I went to sleep, people in the room got up. Before I knew it, it was 10 o’clock on my laptop, and 1 PM eastern standard time. $#%# So I got down to the alley as fast as I could, mad at myself for sleeping so long. When I got their, my table had been given away. This happen to me once before in Onicon. That time, people saw I wasn’t in my original spot, and they never bothered to look for me. =( I was scared that the people that bought my big pieces Friday, would think I left with their money. Paul, the AA head was no where to be found, So I paced around talking with other artists for a bit. By the time he did show up, (I was kinda irritated and I think I came across a lot meaner than I meant too) He told the girls to relocate and found them another table. I felt bad for them, but I also knew I was the bitch in the situation. To add to my wonderful start to the day, the bag with the framed pieces broke and one of my frames shatters. I hurried to clean up and get my table in order as much as I could. I started getting prints out for people when I noticed my hands kinda hurting, then bleeding. I had small slivers of glass embedded in the tops of my knuckles from the broken frame. *whines* Luckily, my day got better after that.

The Roast of Scott McNeil was hilarious. I got a great seat right in front. Saturday night was more of the same. I got to bed earlier, about 4.

Sunday, I had 4 hours sleep and was refreshed. The Alley was great, as usually and I sold more than I thought I would. I now have over half my tuition made! A few of the artists in the AA I had known from before were there too. I really loved this artist alley. =)

Overall, I was very impressed by Ohayocon. I am not sure I an go back, but it was an experience I will always remember.
