Real Life Ponderings and Issues
So I just found out today that a girl I went to middle school with committed suicide about 10 days ago. I didn't really know her; I wasn't her friend in middle school. It was one of those deal where you're friends with friends of hers but never really hung out in the same circles. Nevertheless, I have to say it's the first instance in my life where someone my age that I know has died. In my community, in the neighborhood where I grew up, very very few people had any sort of mental health issue. Of course, they could have just kept it quiet/hidden, but...
I remember back in middle school, she had written an article in the school newspaper anonymously about her issues with cutting/self-harm. She was candid about her problems then and credited her friends with helping her out and getting her better. And she lived for another 10 years before succumbing.
I don't know what I want to say. All I know is that I'm shocked and sad about this tragedy and I offer her family my sympathies. I just hope she's in a better place now.
