Printmaking!

Oct 12, 2006 13:42

So I've racked up a pretty good amount of proofs for my second print in my Printmaking class, so I thought I'd scan them and let everyone see what I've been doing with the damned thing.

First up we have something for my Uncle Mark. He wasn't too clear on what I was making, but what I picked up is that it's for a music album called "Captain Guilt". He gave me a photo of a kid dressed up as Captain America as reference. Apparently he's having a lot of his artist friends do this so he can compile all the drawings into the booklet or something. More news as that developes. I need to get more textures, but I really like that one.

The latest page of my sketchbook. I haven't had much time to draw for myself lately so when I do it kind of comes screaming out of my head before I can finish anything, and my page gets all cluttered up like it never used to before. My favorite is the little "WTF IS THIS" Pete near the bottom. Also two new characters - Ivor and Igor, Alec's Irish Wolfhound puppies. What kind of person would I be if I didn't give him Irish Wolfhounds? I mean really. Now I have four dog characters, one of which is dead and the other three of which are irish wolfhounds. I'm so creative.

And now for the Print!

Step by step baby!

Line engraving

Soft ground texturing- background, fur and hair

Soft ground texturing- Scales, stone, and horns

Aquatinting!

Burnishing! I think this was my "Test it out on Merial first" burnishing, so you can see it better there.

More burnishing! I burnished my life away on this bitch, man.

And finally starting back at the beginning again with some more hard-ground line engraving to pop out the demons, Jimi, and Eustace a little more.

I'm not done yet as now I gotta go burnish the hell out of it again, but I want the final to look a bit like Jim, Greg, and Merial are looking. Down there is good. The rest gets a bit lost.

Progress!

We have to start our drawing for our third print soon. I have no idea what I'm going to draw, seeing as I've already drawn Ben and Skin Deep, and what else is there to me besides those two things? Hur hur.
