If you can prove that it's necessary for you to be away from home- ie for practicable study purposes - you can get youth allowance even though you're not technically an independent- there's this whole 'not practical to be living at home' clause which can be either domestic violence OR study related. Talk to the centrelink dudes at uni - they're usually friendlier than the ones at the offices ( ... )

but the thing is that my parents are earning enough for me to be getting crap all youth allowance. so despite me not getting any money from them, their income is messing up my payments... centrlink should die.

Yeah, but iirc, you SHOULD be classed as independent because you're living away from home, which means independent of your parents income for youth allowance assessment. And you're away from home because it's not practicable for you to commute from home to Sale everyday for uni.

If it doesn't work on one centrelink officer- and it should- then see someone else, or ask to get a second opinion. Fight the bastard system!

(and good luck!)
