just a question.........

i have a question for anyone, everyone.

Honestly, what is the point of life? You are born, you live 70 some years, but then.....all that living has gone to waste, because you die. everything you did during your life doesnt make any difference after you're dead and gone. What is the point of going to college, working hard, wasting half you're ( Read more... )

I guess if you don't believe in some kind of afterlife or something like that, it would be hard to see a point to living. I do believe in all that happy heaven stuff, and I still don't see the point in wasting my life in a job where the only reward I get is money. Notice that little stipulation, I think a job could be worthwhile and such if I enjoy it, if it brings me happiness or i can help other people. So... whether you think it makes a difference or not, i think the point of life is not necessarily to accomplish alot and die wealthy or esteemed, but to enjoy life, have fun and make relationships. You may not believe you have a memory after you die, but as long as you are here, you do, so you may as well spend your life having fun and doing things you love. That's about the only thing I can think of right now to describe my ideas of the meaning of life. :) enjoy... or contradict me if you wish. haha.

I personally believe that the purpose of life is to live. (As best as you possibly can) Maybe that means getting your view out there, saving all the ballenas, or simply putting a smile on someone else's face ... making a difference possibly? But, ultimately, living for yourself and not necessarily just for others.
Meh. Whenever I feel that life has no purpose ... I watch my puppy ... or nature ... and marvel at various objects. Maybe the meaning of life is to gain knowledge in order to pass it on to others to improve their lives ... but what would happiness be if there was no suffering? I don't know ... I just wish unfortunate things didn't have to happen.
Sometimes, I think that the reason for unhappiness is because of all the ideals the media pushes on the general population ... maybe if one could simply free themselves from the restraints of reality ... but that is often accompanied by the use of various acids.
In any case ... I might just be really tired.

well i agree with amber, i think it's hard to think life has a meaning if you don't believe you're going anywhere after you die. for instance, i believe that (with some ideas from lizzy) you live your life to get to know God. and then when you die, you know him, there are other things involved but he judges you and you get into heaven. i know this is just a half-assed summary of what i think but it is like 11 pm ( ... )

au contraire i most certainly do not have to have faith. at least not religious faith anyways. thats my little bit of stubborness for today.

anyways, i love the math analogy! and the toast one...mmm toast.

and that was really profound for 11:00 pm. I'm very impressed :)
