I don't know how big your address book is, but even if it's just a couple of dozen people, you might want to check out the Gesture Search app. You use your fingers to draw letters and as you add letters, it searches your phone (contact list included) to figure out what you're trying to find.

When I set my android phone up, it combined the contact lists from my blackberry, my work email account, and my gmail account. It's sort of absurd. Gesture Search is awesome for my needs. Also, it's free.

I'll look that up. I know there's some way to basically play "connect the dots" with the letters on the touch screen to make words, but I haven't played with it yet. The Droid I got has a full keyboard (slide out) which is a big reason I got that particular one.

As for my address book, I still have a lot of contacts I need to clean out from when I was selling real estate, so it's rather large (or so say the girls at the Wireless kiosk at Costco).
