That's an excellent quote, and one everyone should take a look at. Humans are always trying to box everything neatly, but not everything or everyone fits into those boxes. And it's so hard not to fit.

I'm glad you've chosen your current path, even if you tried to fit in your twenties and now feel like you may have wasted precious time. Good luck with everything.

I think some 'dream-squishers' do it because they're afraid of being left behind. They don't want their friends to go away to college, or their child to move to the big city, or their spouse to get that job that will take him/her away on trips.

Unless I'm motivated by extreme fear/poverty, I pretty much fail at doing anything I don't really want to. There's just no use.

I've never really had a big squishable dream, though. Mum did. Does. Will always. And it makes her desperately unhappy that she hasn't been able to fulfil it. Maybe that's why I play a low expectations game with myself. LOL, people say, "Just do what makes you happy," but if you're like me you're forever peeking behind the curtain wondering why certain things make you happy and why other things don't.
