Okay… massive dream installment…. none sexual or rated R. One of them was the best Castlevania storyline ever and the other was a scary world in which there were 2 Dan!’s and I was stuck in a small room with both of them. Yikes.
Okay… I was home here in MA. For some reason…. I had to move back to Milwaukee…. I got into a new school there or got a new job offer there or something I couldn’t turn down. It was kinda a pain, but worth going back. I had no place there yet, I couldn’t move in for like 2 days or something…. so I figured I’d crash with Dan!. Apparently he was in the process of moving too, so I was going to his old place where he wasn’t going to be, since he was sleeping in his new place, but hadn’t finished moving his stuff out of the old place…. neither of which is our actual apartment in Milwaukee.
Anyway… I get there, get in. I only have one little duffle bag of stuff and a sleeping bag. I’m pretty tired, so I unroll the sleeping bag and put it up against the wall on the side of the one room of the apartment. I was getting ready for bed when I heard the door unlocking. I dove into my sleeping bag and pretended to be asleep for some reason. It was Dan! #1 we’ll call him. So…. Dan! #1 walked by and didn’t notice me at first, but he turned around and suddenly saw me. I think he dropped whatever he was carrying….. and might have given off a girly shriek. Anyway…. I explained what was going on and he was fine with it and said it would be cool for me to crash at his place…. he was crashing here too.
So… Dan! #1 set up his bed, which was also a sleeping bag right next to mine and we hung out for a bit. Eventually we both decided to get changed for bed…. easier for Dan! #! who just takes off clothes… I took off my shirt and went through like trying to put on 3 different shirts that weren’t the right one, so I had to take them off and put on a different one. This part was weird. Anyway… I finally found the right shirt and put it on. At this point, in walked Dan! #2. Dan! #2 didn’t really talk to or acknowledge either of us and was just going about his business as if we weren’t there.
So Dan! #1 and I wanted to talk some more….we had lots to say to each other apparently….. and after a short while Dan! #2 came over and said it was bothering him and that we needed to stop making any noise because he had to practice his dance. We just looked at him and he explained he was in this big performance and had to memorize this complicated dance. Dan! #1 and I said we’d be quiet and we watched Dan! #2 practice his dance which was as goofy and gay as possible, all spinning around and gay ballerina at things. Anyway… Dan! #1 kept on talking to me and kept on irritating Dan! #2. Dan! #1 really wanted to talk to me, so I told him we should both get on AIM right now and we could IM each other so we wouldn’t bother Dan! #2. I told him it’s what Eric and I did all the time. I even told him he could get a new screenname if he was trying to avoid other people that would start talking to him is he signed on. But Dan! #1 wouldn’t do it. He just sat there….. really wanting to talk to me, but refusing to get on AIM to do it. It was kinda sad…. so I just gave up and went to bed.
Yeah…. this dream was weird and kinda goofy. Dan! needs to do more gay ballerina dances.
Okay…. so this game starts out crazy weird…. it’s totally one of the handheld ones. It’s modern day and Dracula’s castle is an accepted part of society. The entire first floor is a mall. It is a mall, with some slightly amusement park elements, filled with people. Dracula does not rule it as he has been banished as has happened in all of the other games. It’s ruled by another vampire though, a vampire not nearly as powerful, but a vampire nonetheless. All of the people, in the mall part and abroad don’t believe in vampires. They think the whole story of it being a castle and there being a vampire lord is a clever advertising gimmick. What’s more… the gimmick angle is played out.
The master of the castle appears out of thin air at the mall to the delight of the crowds and kills people. Sometimes it’s just a slash of his claws, other times he drinks their blood. But it’s a fake killing of people, where the people are often actors and are slashed and bleed and are knocked up in the air sent flying and then crashing to the ground dead. They stay prone and look dead as people watch and do so until eventually no one is really looking and then security picks them up and escorts them out. It makes people think at any time they could be “killed” or they could witness it. Over time Dracula has advanced the act to include slashing real unsuspecting people, tossing them into the air where they crash to the ground bleeding fake blood. It makes everyone happy. However, some of the time…. the deaths are real, most of the ones where the master drinks. Usually those people are not actors and their scream and pleas for mercy are all applauded as part of the show. It’s actually a pretty sweet deal for the master of the castle…. he gets all the free food he wants and everyone thinks it’s all an act.
And I work for him. I’m an older man, about 50 or so, balding with wild wisps of white hair I try and control, but that are always flying about my head. I’m the lord’s chamberlain. I perform a number of functions for him, organize and oversee all the staff that works in his castle (including Dracula’s good friend Death). I line up the people for Dracula to “kill” and to kill, pick the ones that look like they can take the physical stress of being slashed and sent flying through the air (gently) and I pick the one who look all alone and whose death or disappearance would go fairly unnoticed. I’ve become the master of the castle’s most trusted servant. Why I do it is a bit of a mystery. Part of it is a beautiful girl I’ve fallen for. She’s the daughter of the master of the castle, possibly half vampire, possibly fully human. She’s about 18, very sweet and innocent, and I’m like a father to her since her own father is evil. Part of it is also the good friendship I’ve formed with Alucard who inhabits the castle for reasons unknown to me, but has come to like me and me him. I also stay out of fear. I’m afraid to say no now that I know the truth. I hate to watch people be killed and sucked dry, to know that I’m responsible for it. But how can I leave…. he would kill me, and if I did, he’d just find someone else to do it. I can’t stop him myself. So I wait, I work for him, and I hope for the day which he can be stopped.
Well…. one day something does change. I’m off in some part of the castle when I find this hidden part of the castle I’d never noticed before, and as head chamberlain, I know every part of this castle. I’m shocked to find this place and know that I’ve never stumbled across it before. It’s coated in dust and looks as if it has remained untouched for a very long time. I go don the long hallway that leads deeper and deeper into the castle and eventually under the castle. It goes lower and lower, turning from a hallway into a cavern. Eventually it leads to this small room. Everything is dark and creepy. The room is walled by bones, walls, floor, ceiling, covered in bones. In the middle is this table, also made of bones. On it is some this amulet, oval shaped. It’s got a gold border and a swirling red and black cloudy looking jewel in the center. It looks like it there are pieces of it missing, like this is the centerpiece, but that there are more pieces. Inscribed on the table below the amulet is a cryptic phrase. I take the amulet and write down the phrase as I try and puzzle out what all of it means. From here the game begins.
The game itself kinda flies by for me. The purpose is to find the rest of the pieces of this amulet. I find a number of clues in these mysterious phrases that hint at what the amulet does and where to find the other pieces. The search leads me all over the castle, and even into the mall where one of the pieces is hidden. My lord quickly finds out that I have found the amulet and thus considers it a betrayal. He sends all of his minions after me now. Moreover… I discover Alucard is also after me too. I don’t know why Alucard is against me and I run into him throughout the castle and he never gives me the chance to explain, just forces me to fight him and every time I defeat him he runs off promising to be back and that he will stop at nothing to defeat my nefarious scheme. Moreover, I’m concerned about the girl, who now thinks I’m evil and have betrayed her too.
So… I’m trying to put together an amulet, discover why Alucard is against me, and reach my beloved to tell her I’m doing this for her. As I proceed I discover the mystery of the amulet…. what the amulet does is summons Dracula for three full years at full power. The master of the castle wants it so he can summon Dracula and be his right hand man and help take over the world for darkness. Soon after learning this I finally find the girl at some point in my journey. I explain what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. She sympathizes with me and agrees to help me and betray her father. I try and talk her out of it, saying I don’t want her to put herself at risk, but she will hear none of it. I give in and she says she thinks her father has one of the last pieces and she will work on getting it for me.
I finally learn that Alucard is after me because he has been told I am piecing together the amulet to summon Dracula….. which is the opposite of what I want. Towards the very end after I defeat him again he finally sticks around long enough for me to explain myself and we realize we are on the same side and he agrees to help me. He gives me a talisman that will save me from one deathblow.
I learn from the girl where the last piece is located, in a secret room at the very top of the castle just off of her father’s throne room. She says she will get it for me while I get the rest of the pieces. I get all but the last one and move on to where the last one is, hoping she just couldn’t get to it, fearing that she’s been found out. I finally get to the very top of the castle where the last piece of the amulet is. I piece it together and now hold in my hands the power to summon Dracula. I get to the stairs and meet Alucard. Suddenly in bursts the lord of the castle with his daughter. He discovered her efforts to assist me and is now using her as a hostage for my good behavior. He wants to exchange the girl for the amulet. I look at her…. love and sorrow in my eyes. I then look to Alucard and he reads my intentions and says he’ll cover me. I turn and dash down the stairs with the amulet. I hear the lord cry out I rage as Alucard launches himself at him.
I fly down the stairs, killing any of the monsters in my path, eventually making my way to the bottom of the stairs and into the mall. I dash through the mall and hear the lord of the castle now on my heels. I know I am going to die. Suddenly he is before me. I look desperately for something to hit him with, grab an easel with an ad on it from next to me and bash him over the head with it. He laughs and with one swipe sends me flying across the mall where I crash into the ground and lie unmoving. He thinks I am dead…. as I should be… but the talisman of Alucard saved me. I lay and wait as people clap and cheer as the master of the castle poses for the people.
I expect the security to eventually come and escort my dead body off. I feel someone stand over me and pick me up. I let them and then hear her whisper that everything will be okay and that she will get me out. It’s my (Alfred’s) mother. She is old… looks like my (Jason’s) grandmother. She picks me up, though I help by getting my to my feet. She tells me to look like I’m dead, the master of the castle is still around and probably watching. I look limp in her arms as she walks slow as molasses to the door leading outside. I keep trying to move faster, fearing for my life and needing to get away and destroy the amulet. But my mother slows me down.
We finally make it outside at our crawling pace. I step into the sunlight of the path and crash to the ground in tears. I left the girl I loved to die. I know she’s dead, and possibly Alucard. I let everyone I cared about die. I let it out and then get back up as there is work to be done. The amulet must be taken away and destroyed, which will require some research on how to do it. I look ahead of me into the sun and see suddenly a girl running towards me. It’s my beloved. I take her in my arms and hold her to me, now weeping with joy. Alucard gave his life delaying he master of the castle and spiriting the girl away. Together we set off to destroy the amulet and end the threat of Dracula.
Just pure awesomeness. It was such a badass dream.
