An Awesome Shift At Work.... Finally

Jul 31, 2008 00:39

Okay…. Awesome day was fucking awesome…. this was absolutely one of my favorite most fun shifts ever. I just fucking loved it… I mean I did not take my break…. but was having so much fun that I didn’t even notice or miss it. That is bad ass. So yeah…. details shall follow as always behind the cut.

Uhm…. where to start…. there was just so much awesome… and so much of it involved cute boys I’m in love with…… so yeah.

Joan left me in pretty good shape for Joan… and for some reason didn’t think I was going to be in until like 6 PM…. but she’s often confused. Though she did already have Tyler ringing on a register that had not been audited….. which is less than desirable.

Still…. walk in… Krissy, Sam, Alex Grotevant, Chris McNamara, Tyler Dennis, Phyllis… not a bad crew to work with.

So…. first Linda…. yeah… she’s crazy. So.. people are standing around so I got up to Sam and ask her to go collect returns and shop the store. As I’m finishing this up with Sam…. Linda comes right up next to me and tells Chris to do the same thing. I just look at Linda…. and say…. sorry but I just told Sam to do the same thing. She all paused awkwardly… and then we all pointed at each other and glared at each other and I was all jokingly…. I can do my job… and she was all… I know… you’re the best…. and then she never bothered me again. I mean… she starts every shift by telling me what to do… and then remembers I’m so awesome I’ve already beaten her to it… and then she just leaves me alone…. it’s so amusing.

Phyllis was her usual self… all needy and confused….. but her drawer balanced so it was all good…. plus I only had her for an hour. I mean… right when I got in she had an order that had been paid mostly with EBT, but with $.67 left… and the guy didn’t have the change. I couldn’t order save it…. so I just put it through and told her to give him the change for when he brought back the cash. I even wrote down on the receipt how much he had left to pay. Yeah… he came back with $10 and she had no idea what to do… and Joan tried to help her and couldn’t figure out what Phyllis needed… it was so sad… I had to go into the drawer and get the change out.

Also….. fucking Crazy Union Man. So… there was this crazy guy that works for the union that was all…. car salesman at things trying to get all of the employees to sign little petition slips to mail into congress to make a stiffer penalty for companies firing employees for trying to start a union. It’s a good cause…. but this guy was loud over enthusiastic and acting like he was trying to sell us cars. I mean he came from behind Nick Gambara and scared the fuck out of the kid…. Nick’s face was priceless. Then Holly from produce came in and right as she turned the corner after coming in the door… he ran up to her and was all waving his slip at her…. her face of shock was also priceless. Linda’s reaction was also so just…. do I really have to let this guy be here… but he was only there for like an hour… it was amusing.

Also…. fucking Darren Songer…… I love that man…. he was chilling in the store all afternoon. I so begged him to stay…. so did Krissy…. we would’ve gone crazy go nuts if he’d been closing.

So…. Chris McNamara….. did bagging for me….. and was my give extra jobs too bitch… or at least one of them. Well…. one of his obsessions….. he wanted to block ice cream. Apparently he did that for frozen one time and said it was so fun…. and I couldn’t resist his enthusiasm for it…. so I took the bullet and asked Linda for him. Oh God…. her face was so hysterical…. jaw dropped… eyes bugged….. she was all… WTF?! Ice Cream?! It was amusing. So yeah… she said no big time… and instead had me send out my cart kids and make them pick trash up off the ground outside…. I guess that’s what I get for asking her.

So…. my cart kids…. Billy Gravelle and Mike Blackmon or something like that… I’ve worked with him like once. So yeah… they did good on carts… and they were nice enough to stay out there for like an hour picking up trash off the ground with gloves and a bag. The kid who was supposed to be on carts was John Fitzgerald… but he bailed on me….. which sucks. Both Billy and Mike left at 4…. so by 4:30 we had no carts and I had to sent someone out to do it. Chris begged me not to make him do it…. and in his defense he’s been assigned it a lot of late… so I sent Alex Grotevant out…. since I don’t think he ever gets scheduled as such. It was only for half an hour anyway…. until Adam came in to clean up what I’m sure was a mess of a parking lot that I left for him. I’ll probably end up getting him in more trouble with Paul Kelly who will think he’s even more of a slacker for not having enough in….. even though it’s the afternoon staff’s fault for letting it get behind. Plus.. I think Alex got most of his carts from the side because I said that was fine to get a few in quick… but then he never went and got like all the ones piled up in the metal cart hangars… or whatever they’re called. I’ll have to talk to him next time I send him out there.

So… special training went well. I did it with both Tyler and Alex…. separately. I think it will help both of them…. I’m just getting tired of seeing all of the mistakes being made with checks… and most of it is because the cashiers who train these kids have bad habits developed out of experience. The young kids need to not put anything in the system until they have the check in hand… they need to carefully look over the check to make sure it’s filled out correctly… and they need to be careful about entering it into the system. It takes longer…. but that way they’ll learn it… and then they can get all speedy and slam buttons rapidly like all of us experienced ones do…. Check Enter Clear Enter Enter…. rapid fire.

One I’m really having trouble with is Nadejda. She’s just careless. I mean she doesn’t ask is she’s unsure and kinda just hits buttons on the keyboard and if there’s a problem just shrugs her shoulders and is all I don’t know what I did or how to do this. Lily works hard at it and knows if she makes a mistake what it is and asks. She’s learning… I’m worried Nadejda is going to be like a Dave Allard just hit buttons until everything bad goes away type.

And Brianna was in and like Paul Dwyer’s little pet project…. he sent her to get him coffee…. he gave her his keys to get him money out of the podium while he was ringing… he walked with her a bit while she did returns….. yeah… it was gross to watch. I don’t understand how she puts up with it without totally being disgusted.

Billy Ahmed pisses me off… he switched with Zack for selfscan after covering Zack’s break…which was fine…. Billy was here until 9:30 so I was fine with him staying on selfscan plus Zack does more bagging. But oh God… Billy was over looking at the schedule on the board every five minutes… I got so sick of it… that kid just does nothing but be useless. I did make him go clean up spills as he was my bagger bitch for a while… but still… unless you make him do something… he does nothing.

Zack… though he glued himself to Nadejda’s register for most of the shift… did the bagging… and honestly…. was needed as Nadejda needed the help every five minutes. I like him….. he’s a cute kid….. very friendly and talkative….. a trait I’m quite the sucker for. So he was asking me about becoming a cdh today. I explained to him that he failed to meet the primary prerequisite…. he’s not a pretty young girl. He said he could try for it…. but I told him I didn’t think it’d be enough to impress Paul Dwyer…. but who knows. I mean… are there any male CDH’s trained since Paul? I was here before, Paul was here before, Dave was sadly here before. Unless I’m missing something….. the answer is no…. he has not trained a single male CDH…. only females…. holy crap that realization is just sinking in. Wow. So yeah… anyway… I’m not sure if Zack would make a good one. He could do it okay definitely… but a good one…. I’m not sure. I think he tends to get too distracted…. to involved in talking to people…. plus I don’t know how he could handle ordering people around and actually making people do their jobs. Still…. we have worse ones… so who knows.

Also…. there was this one kid that was walking out of the store with his friend…. both about 14…. as they got to the outside door…. he yelled out real loud… “Bill Wimer is a dick.” I was all… wtf? I almost chased him outside. Then he came back in and I stared him down until he walked right back outside not saying anything more. I think Krissy said that his brother works in the deli or something… it was just so out of nowhere.

And then there’s Alex Grotevant. Yeah… I am so so in love with this boy. I mean….. he’s just so cute I don’t know what to do with myself. So today… the word I decided to describe him is conscientious. That’s what he is. He’s so conscientious about everything he does. And that’s yet another trait that I find irresistible. He got pickling cucumbers…. had no idea what they were…. put them in quantity…. got corrected by the customer…. didn’t know how to fix it and I came to help him. We figured it out… voided out the regular ccumbers and put in the pickling ones…. 4596 PLU baby….. and he was moving them over into a bag and dropped them… most went into thebag…. but one fell out and he kinda caught it with his body so it was perfectly balanced sticking out of his crotch and into the bag. It was just….. so perfect….. so funny…. and yet so…. evil thoughts are bad. But then afterwards he was all asking for a list about what stuff is weighed and what is quantity and how to tell and stuff. He just so wanted to know and be prepared and have everything in order for himself. Its just so fucking adorable. It’s a very good quality too he really cares about getting things right and knowing what to do and not to do. It makes me very happy. I could see him someday being a CDH if he lasts. Reminds me of Lauren Hickey. Very conscientious about getting things right… can be very soft-spoken….. but will get work done.

So yeah… the day was just so badass. I mean I also pwned the hell out of it….. got audits done on every drawer, two of them twice….. got a sweep done and counted at 5:15 so Paul Kelly wouldn’t have to worry about it for the night….. it was beauteous… though I’m sure blocking could’ve used some work… but we were pretty busy enough to not really be able to send people out for that… especially when Linda was all pick up trash and do other stuff first. Still… it was a productive and awesome day.

So yeah… finished Legend of Dragoon last night… it was an awesomely fun game… the story and characters were total generic blah… with the only interesting characters being shoved to the background. But goddamn was it so much fun for me to play. I just enjoyed everything about it. Also… the final FMV had some hysterically bad voice acting…. I was on the floor. But overall… the entire game was filled with terrible voice acting… so it was no surprise. Now I gots to find a new game to play.
