First of all--hi there. =)

Secondly, as someone who lives in Los Angeles and is taking public transit home this very evening, I'm going to ask--what is the point you're making with this link, exactly?

If it's that public transit will always be sub-par for everyone, be aware that Los Angeles is pretty unique when it comes to its transit difficulties and that I've also lived in New York. ;)

Howdy.

This is mostly as a reference for those of us in Seattle who are about to vote on a $150 billion transit package that won't be built for 50 years and will remove buses from the roads. Not saying anything about LA as I haven't lived there. It works in NYC but....NYC is special.

Hm. I don't enough about Seattle to compare it to Los Angeles in terms of its transit issues. I know that modern Los Angeles was largely planned in the anticipation of everyone eventually owning an automobile (which is partially why we have to rely so heavily on freeways) and that subsequent planning has done little to keep up with a rapid population growth and geographic sprawl. We have, I think as a result of the aforementioned heavy reliance on driving, a strong car culture (car=identity, etc.) which results in our freeways being clogged with single-occupant vehicles at all hours. We also have excessively high registration and insurance fees that prevent our large population of "poor" citizens from ever being able to afford to own cars. We really shoot for a decline in vehicles on the roads as opposed to an eradication--although an eradication would be nice.

I've heard very positive things about the public transit system in Seattle, although I'm not sure if it works for y'all, given your location relative to the city itself?
