You shouldn't have to make your Journal private. You can say what you like as long as it is your opinion or a truth. Even if you wrote something possibly untrue it wouldn't be slander, it would be libel. Libel is "An untruthful statement about a person, published in writing or through broadcast media, that injures the person's reputation or standing in the community". If you wrote "I saw Bob Smith blow a goat", and it was untrue it would be libel. If you wrote, "It is my opinion that my ex-wife would be a goat blower par excellence." That would not be libel, it would be your opinion.
I would like to stay on your list of friends. We may not get to see each other or talk frequently, but I still care about you and your opinions and feelings. I still think of you as my friend.
