Insert Gas Pun Here

So two things happened.  It was pointed out to me in no uncertain terms that I hadn't updated LJ in a very long time, and that I'm probably a little overdue.  That, and I just refueled my car for the 200th time.  So what better use is there for all of this data than to put up some nice and pretty graphs illustrating surprisingly depressing ( Read more... )

Gotta keep them oil prices low! Look at the wonderful job our war in Iraq has done at keeping oil prices low over the past 5 years.

I think it's very sad when an entire nation is duped into going to war for a bunch of oil companies.

We weren't duped, they probably would have went ahead and done it anyway regardless of how many people wanted to go. It was mostly cronyism between a certain few and the administration, as far as I can tell. That and we wanted into OPEC by proxy, to preserve the purity of our bodily essence.

Damnit, now you're making me want to enter in all my numbers. I've got records for 3 vehicles going back to 1994 or so. That's going to be a lot of typing.

Distance per dollar, that was calculated simply by how many miles I was able to drive per dollar I spent on gas.

The confusion is probably due to the linear regression line used on the graph. That was designed to be a hilariously horrendous (although apparently not horrendously hilarious) example and an entirely unrealistic prediction. In reality that line will of course never cross zero ... until you start adding in cost of maintenance, insurance, etc.

Besides, as you imply, how much "driving is worth" is at best an opinion. :)

Hmm, I need to look up the difference in elevation between Ohio and DC and figure out how that would cause a 5+ mpg jump since these numbers were posted...
