We had a lot of fun at this last chat. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, even for brief periods of time. It was great to see and interact with you all.

Okay, I've been playing around a little bit with the Skype IM chat function and honestly, I think it will work for us. If nothing else, it'll be better than Chatango, at least in terms of privacy and for those of us with vision issues, accessibility.

The next chat is scheduled for February 20th so let's try to take the time to download and set up Skype before then.

So, some basics. Using Skype for IM is free. You don't need any specialized equipment, just a computer that's running at least Windows 2000 (like mine...*g*) or OS X and an internet connection.

I think that for the most part, Skype seems to be easy to figure out, but in case you have issues, here is some help. How to add contacts, How to send IMs, Skype IM For Macs.

Download the program: Windows or Mac. Install. Start it up. Get yourself a Skype name. I used my LJ/DW name. Edit your profile to show what info you want it to show.

Go up to Contacts -> New Contact. In the blank field, type in akamine_chan and hit find. I should be the only akamine_chan. Highlight my name and click add contact. The important thing is that both of us have to accept each other's contact info. And we'll have to do that for everyone who joins the chat. But once it's done, we can "save" the chat and it will be like a private chat room that any of us can use at any time.

I'll have Skype running in the background most times, so when you're ready to try it out, give me a beep...*g*
