I have no problem with Ray Vecchio stories - I love him. But I have to say the end of the last one you've recced captures all the unpleasantness of the Ray/Ray conflict for me - the "let's get rid of 'Stan' (hate that, he never is called that, you know) so we can be together. He was just in the way." And lest you think I'm particularly protective about Kowalski, I hate stories that shuffle Vecchio off in the same way. These types of stories always work my last nerve, the pitting of one against the other in a glib way, with a dismissing conclusion. I appreciate that some may prefer one character over the other, but this type of story does not butter my muffin at all.
I'd just like to respectfully second that - there are many wonderful stories for the F/V pairing (probably just as many as for F/K, though I incline to the latter myself), but it feels like a let-down when a story relies on bashing a particular character (e.g. Stella, the "wrong" Ray etc.) rather than exploring the dynamic that is its main focus of interest, with credible reactions from other characters (and ideally a lot of laughs, hotness, angst, hotness ... and more hotness. And fun bits with Dief and Bob in them.). And if I might just take the liberty, I really want to say: THANK YOU (kindly) Speranza for this inspired initiative (and I'd rabbit on and on about everything else she gives to the fandom except I'd be afraid of getting unspeakably OTT and setting off the smarm-alert sprinkler system which is bad for the servers), and a thousand thanks to all the reccers. Well, it doesn't matter now, does it? The link to that story is gone. And I do find it hard to not think that you're being particularly protective of Kowalski, because you are a F/K shipper. There is huge double standard in this fandom toward Kowalski vs. Ray Vecchio. NO ONE complains when RayV is bashed or written to get "out of the way" of F/K - hell, Paul Gross wrote the stupid ending to "COTW" instead of sticking to the original script because he wanted RayV out of Fraser's life so Fraser could go on his merry way with Kowalksi in Canada! PG didn't give one damn about Fraser's and RayV's friendship, and he wrote Fraser as an asshole friend to RayV because of that, and because he wanted to please the F/K fangirls like you
