Message to the owner and the maintainers

cesperanza, china_shop, renenet, sageness: by request of luzula et al I recently looked into what would be involved in importing this comm into Dreamwidth as a protection against LJ doing away with it for lack of current activity. What I found was that only an owner or maintainer can do that, so I am hoping that one of y'all will handle the import. Here are the import instructions from DWRead more... )

Okay, it looks pretty straightforward, but should we at least post a notice here first, to warn people that we're archiving their fic? I don't think people can easily opt out of the import, but we could go through and delete their entries after the fact, if they want us to.

(Do you want me to make you a maintainer?)

More maintainers is more support for the comm, and I'm all for that , so yes, make me a maintaner. I'd prefer that someone who isn't "the new kid on the team" (the new kid being me) do the import, but on your say-so I would volunteer to do notices here and the noticeboards about the archiving. (This will be the first time I'm part of an importing move. Are there really fen who would object to fic they have at LJ being also at DW?)

Done! This is the first time I've been part of an import too.

There used to be a very strong social agreement that archiving/reposting someone's fic to another site without permission was Definitely Not Okay. I don't know if that's still true or if tumblr culture has changed expectations, but this comm was active at a time when the social rules were very clear. And DW was somewhat divisive when it first started -- not everyone's comfortable with it as a platform. So yeah.

As Fraser would say..."understood".

I've only been in fandom since 2011, and there's still "netiquette" for me to learn.

I'll take care of posting about the matter of archiving in terms of that social agreement.
