Full disclosure: I do not know brooklinegirl, but I very much enjoy her fics!
Pairings: Fraser/Kowalski, Fraser/Kowalski/Vecchio, Kowalski/Vecchio, Billy/Joe, Callum/Hugh, various others.
Style and strengths: Brooklinegirl was one of the very first authors I read when I came stumbling into DS fandom, and one of the reasons why I fell headlong into Kowalski/Vecchio as a pairing and never looked back. I really like the way she writes tension of all kinds; personal tension, UST, you name it. The dynamics between her characters are always so realistic and multi-layered, and again, the tension is almost tangible and leaps off of the page without veering into overt angry antagonism--it's very subtle, actually, and I like that a lot about her fics. I love how she writes characters sparking off each other, in this slow smoldering burn until everything comes to a head. (I maybe just snickered at my own bad pun, okay, sorry.) Also, she writes some of the absolutely hottest fics I have ever, ever read. HOLY COW. You read them and then think maybe you better throw yourself into an ice bath before you turn into a pile of fangirl-shaped ashes. Not even kidding, here. I love her Vecchio a lot, he's so delightfully snarky and tinged with a little world-weariness from his time in Vegas, without being completely subsumed by angst. Kowalski is delightfully prickly and moody, cocky and pushy and smart. Together, they make me SQUEAK WITH JOY. I like all her fics that I've read, from RPS to HCL and Twitch City, but I have a special ♥ for her K/V since I probably have read some of these ONE MILLION TIMES EACH.

Take Another Road (Kowalski/Vecchio, due South)
I remember reading this and *devouring* it. I love this fic, and I've read it many, many times. It's road trip fic, which I *love*, and again the dynamic between Kowalski and Vecchio is so *perfect*. It's not overt I HATE YOU antagonism, but nor is it a happy easy friendship; it's complicated, gritty, funny, sweet, and HI, SO, SO HOT. I've had this fic on my bookmarks for forever, and it's a satisfying read every single time. It's really hard for me to put an excerpt here, because I love about a million things in this fic, but this part is definitely a favorite.

"That too." Kowalski succeeded in untying the boot and pulled it off with both hands. He let it fall to the floor with a thump, and looked down at Ray. Ray, with a little bit of effort, got to his knees and leaned on the edge of the bed to peer up at Kowalski.

Kowalski, leaving the second boot on, was pulling his t-shirt off over his head. Only he'd dug his glasses out at some point to read the back of the bottle (out loud. To Ray. In carefully articulated tones.) and still had them on, so the neck of the t-shirt got caught, and he was half in and half out until Ray leaned up to help tug it off.

Kowalski looked down at him and grinned a crooked grin. "Come on, Vecchio. You seem like a Jacuzzi sort of guy."

"Do I really?" Ray asked doubtfully.

"Well." Kowalski studied him for a moment. "Kinda?"

Ray regarded him solemnly, and Kowalski grinned some more, then cracked up laughing.

"What?" Ray demanded, getting to his feet only a little bit unsteadily. "What"

"Nothing." Kowalski, who had fallen back onto the bed, waved a hand weakly in his direction. "Nothing, just - I keep picturing you. All - seventies. With - long hair! And gold chains! And Barry White on in the background as you try to get some unsuspecting stewardess into the hot tub with you." He was shaking with laughter now. "It's just so vivid in my head."

"Thanks," Ray said sourly, looking down at him. "Thanks a lot, Stanley."

"You're welcome." Kowalski was still lying back on the bed, giggling. "I - oh man, it really is an awesome image."

"Shut it." Ray crawled up onto the bed to sprawl next to Kowalski, and Kowalski companionably shifted over to make room for him. The bed was soft. And big. They fit really well. The water was still running in the bathroom, for the Jacuzzi. It really would be a shame to waste it.

Kowalski's arm was somehow stuck underneath Ray. Which meant that Kowalski's hand was on Ray's back, and Kowalski was sort of tracing up and down it with his fingers. Ray looked down at him sternly, because that was kind of queer. "Stop it," he said, and Kowalski said, "Okay," and stopped, and then Ray was kissing him. Or Kowalski was kissing Ray. It was kind of hard to tell, and maybe it didn’t matter so much who was doing what, because now Kowalski had one foot hooked over Ray's legs, dragging him down closer, and man, Stella had been right, Kowalski could kiss. What had happened before - that was fucked up, and didn't hardly count, but this was something else entirely, and it was all Ray could do to just keep up.

Gas Food Lodging (Kowalski/Vecchio, due South)
HI THIS IS HOT LIKE A HOT THING THAT IS HOT. Ahem. I think this is one of my favorite K/V fics, and again, that tension that builds between them and then just snaps--so awesome. Also this features wall sex, and some of the hottest sex!dialog EVER, which is another thing Brooklinegirl is really good at writing. Vecchio is so hot in this fic I kind of want to die. IN A GOOD WAY.

Ray was looking at Vecchio again. He knew it this time, realized it, but didn't even try to stop, just reached blindly for his bottle of beer and took a long, slow swallow, never moving his eyes off of Vecchio.

"What are you looking at?" Vecchio slammed down his beer on the bedside table. The beer, of course, foamed up and over the rim of the bottle, soaking Vecchio's hand and sleeve. He jumped up, shaking his hand and cursing, and Ray was half-hard just watching him. Which didn't make any sense, but there it was.

He swung his legs over the side of the bed and got to his feet as well. "Nothing, just - looking." He smiled what he hoped was his dangerous smile and it must have been, because Vecchio glared at him.

"What the fuck is your problem, Kowalski?"

"I don't got a problem, Vecchio."

"Trust me, you got plenty of problems."

"Yeah?" And now Ray had drifted pretty close to Vecchio, and Vecchio was blinking like he only just now realized how close. Ray lifted his chin at him.

"Back off," Vecchio said tensely, his hands curling into fists.

"Or what?" Ray, working on pure instinct - or adrenaline, or something - moved in half a step closer, which was right the fuck up in Vecchio's space. He tilted his head, looking at Vecchio curiously. "What are you gonna do, Vecchio?"

Vecchio was a blur of motion, his hands grabbing Ray's shirt and then shoving him against the wall hard enough that he lost his breath for a moment, even though he'd been expecting it. Vecchio had his weight against Ray and was glaring at him - but not that cold glare he got sometimes. No, there was some heat in that gaze and Ray grinned just a little because hey - he'd been right on target here.

"Maybe I do have a problem," Ray said consideringly, leaning his head back against the wall and letting one leg slide forward to nudge between Vecchio's thighs. Vecchio was hard. Ray didn't have a single problem.

Vecchio was good - he didn't even take a breath, just narrowed his eyes. "Shut the fuck up, Kowalski."

"You gonna make me?" Ray tilted his hips forward, raising an eyebrow.

In a Little While (Kowalski/Vecchio, due South)
I really like this story--which, again, with the hot--because I *adore* twitchy, nervous Kowalski who tries and tries to be a tough guy, or to be all smooth and suave, and totally fails. I also think this story is lovely in its quietness, and very sweet in the relationship that emerges between them.

Also, um, I kind of love fics where someone calls Kowalski a slut, okay? Guh.

Vecchio didn't say anything, and didn't say anything, and Ray was really trying to watch the game. Only he couldn't even watch it, really didn't want to even be watching it. He took another sip of his beer, but he didn't want that either. He didn't realize he was playing with his bracelet, circling it around and around on his wrist, until Vecchio's warm hand landed on his, the long fingers easily circling it.

"Nervous about something, Stanley?" Vecchio sounded amused, and Ray made an active effort to relax. He slouched back further on the couch, and put one bare foot on the coffee table.

"Yeah," he said, tilting his head against the back of the couch to look at Vecchio. Vecchio was watching him, and his hand still rested, warm, on Ray's. "Nervous that the Hawks will manage to somehow screw up this lead."

"Not possible." Vecchio took his hand away, and Ray tried to keep breathing normally. Was this what they were doing? Were they just two guys watching the game? But they weren't even that, never had been that. Had never hung out before ever. The one and only time they, uh, socialized was that night when Vecchio broke in, and that couldn't hardly count as anything normal.

The game was back on, but Ray was still watching Vecchio, whose hand was resting on his own thigh, now. Just resting there, and Ray glanced down at it, and Vecchio - Vecchio was hard. Vecchio was clearly hard there in his nice pants, and Ray wrenched his gaze away, only to get caught by Vecchio, who was - calm. Calm, and watching him, and Ray felt the flush rising in his cheeks. Fuck, fuck, wasn't Vecchio supposed to be the one having the freak-out here?

Ray took a deep breath, and turned back to the game, shifting on the couch. Because Vecchio was hard, and Ray was getting hard, here, inside his jeans. Ray was getting really turned on, and what was this, was this a date? What the hell was this?

He watched the game, his eyes glazed over, maybe, because all he could think about was that Vecchio was there beside him on the couch, hard and hot and wanting something. Vecchio was hard, and Ray had seen Vecchio's cock, had watched down the length of his body as Vecchio stroked up against him, his cock long and flushed, stroking right alongside of Ray's, over and over again, before coming in those quick, pulsing spurts all over Ray's stomach and just -

This wasn't helping. This wasn't helping.

When he turned his head again - helplessly, he didn't even remember making the decision to do so - Vecchio was looking at him, and he was close, close, so damn close beside him on the couch. Ray - Ray'd been going to wait, Ray'd been going to make Vecchio be the one to push this. Vecchio was the one who kept showing up, Vecchio was going to have to be the one to take the chance.

Alone So Far (Hugh Dillon/Benton Fraser, Canadian Actor RPS/due South)
I think this is AWESOME. Of course Fraser would show up and try and be helpful to a fellow Canadian. *giggles* I am never, ever going to think Benton Fraser referring to Hugh Dillon as a ruffian is anything other than REALLY AWESOME OKAY. *draws hearts* And then Hugh seduces a MOUNTIE. I love this because it is so PLAUSIBLE. Also, I may have mentioned how brooklinegirl writes the smoking hot porn? YES.

There was a thud against the door and the knob jerked as someone tried to come in.

Hugh lifted his chin. "Fuck off!" he yelled, then shook his head apologetically at Fraser. "Not a moment's peace around here."

Fraser nodded. "I understand how you feel."

"Yeah?" Hugh did that thing again, where he looked Fraser up and down, and Fraser felt a shiver run down his spine, like a goose stepped on his grave, as his grandmother used to say. "Yeah, I guess you do. What was your name again?"

"Benton Fraser."

"Huh. That's a mouthful. Nice to meet you, Fraser." Hugh rubbed his hand over the back of his neck. "Sorry you had to come all the way down here for nothing."

"Well." Fraser cleared his throat, his collar suddenly feeling tight. "Not for nothing, per se."

Hugh looked up at him, quirking an eyebrow, and Fraser wondered if the room had suddenly gotten warmer. "Er, that is, I would have hated for the local officers to have had to have handled the incident on their own."

Hugh snorted. "They would have handled it fine. I would have maybe spent an uncomfortable couple of hours in a fucking cell, but - " He shrugged.

"Then I'm glad I was able to help."

"Just by showing up." Hugh leaned back, one arm hanging loosely over the back of the couch.

Fraser swallowed, trying to focus on the case at hand. Hugh was an interesting man. His mode of dress and style of speech seemed to be those of a ruffian, but then he interrupted his own show to stop a girl from being harassed. And yet it didn't seem to be a front that he put on; in fact, he seemed very comfortable with, well, every aspect of himself.
