Thank you! I actually had so many ideas I was seriously tempted to whine for permission to do multiple posts. (Fortunately, I thought of the poor readers who would have to scroll through all that, and I decided against it.)
And then I thought, what is the one thing fans might come to a community called ds_recs seeking? And suddenly, I knew what I needed to post about.
then read pretty much anything I could get my hands on.
*nods*
This is totally my approach, too. All hail dS fandom, where you can use this method and still retain your basic faith in humanity!
I want fic and I want it now, but I hate all the googling to find it.
*winces*
Yeah, see, that's one of the main reasons I rec stuff. When I started in fandom - well, let's just say there was a steep and very painful learning curve. I began with archives. Archives in Lord of the Rings fandom. And...OMG. I can't believe I persevered. (I will never, ever forget the frustration of clicking and clicking and clicking and finding nothing but crap. I was all, "It's awful! No one on the internet can write at all!" And then Best Beloved leaned over and clicked at random and found a good story. The first one I found in that archive, in fact.)
So recs pages were this magical, wonderful discovery for me back then. I totally imprinted on them. And when I was ready to start participating, well, that's what I did.
The answer to your question is, yes. All it means is that ds_recs will stop updating, the whole year full of recs will still be here and readable. And no question is ever stupid.
Ooooh, more rec-lists. And yes, Te's is great, as is Poly and Cimmorene's. This one was the one I was pointed to when I got into the fandom, it has a huge Speranza factor but was one heck of a help.
Oooo! Thank you. I'm going to ask BLG if I can modify this post to add the ones that were suggested, and if I can, that's definitely going on the list.

Hi! And welcome to the neighborhood! And stuff!
I'm glad I could help, because this is a marvelous fandom. Everyone should love Ray(s) and Fraser.

So now I want to marry you and make little bald people. Okay, exaggeration, but I do like you an awful lot for this. :)
I've nothing to add, since the best fics I've found on my own were Speranza's and you're all over that.

Honestly, everybody was a newbie once, and everybody asks the same "dumb" questions about LJ.
