Okay, not exactly. But dessert_first and I have been trying to figure out what's fun, what's working, and what's not, and... well, we need more feedback. So! Below the cut, please find a short poll about the comm. The individual responses will be visible only to us modly types, in case that would affect your answers ( Read more... )

The main reason I prefer to have recs posted as posts rather than comments is because that way they show up on my flist. I don't have to remember to come back to the original post and check out the comments, which I often forget to do.

Yeah, seconding this.

Commenting on challenge entries is maybe more low-profile and less intimidating in a way, but I have a bad tendency to look at a new challenge, go "Ooh, I should totally post some recs for that....later," and then completely forget about it as it moves away from the top of my flist. And then I don't get to actually read the recs that are made, because I forget to thumbtack the entry, and...yeah.

Yes! I've done that several times since the new format started and each time the new challenge is announced, I'm all *sadface* because I missed the last one.

A lot of rec comms I'm on have moved to two weeks. A reminder post goes up halfway through, and even sometimes another one the day before the end. Would you be okay with comment recs if there were reminder posts?

I'm just really new to the fandom, so I'm shy about posting recs -- will I be re-reccing something a million other people have recced? Will I inadvertently rec someone that stomped off in a huff and everyone would prefer never to see again?

I really like the challenges, though, and I love seeing what people post in response to them! I have definitely found some gems through this comm!

But with the constant new influx of fans, reccing something that's already been recced a million times before isn't such a bad thing. Someone will go "Oh, I haven't read that!"

It's all good. *g*

I agree with akamine_chan! Don't worry about re-reccing things. It will happen -- it has happened. I've done it! But other new fans may not have read it/seen it/heard it, and long-standing fans may have forgotten it and enjoy the reminder. Also, particularly with rec challenge responses, you might be recommending something for a unique facet that gets overshadowed by whatever the fanwork is best known for.

(and new things to devour, my poll comment was supposed to say before LJ cut me off.)

(thanks! I set the text box limits as high as LJ would let me, but that didn't seem very high at all.)

I understand the problem that it doesn't show up on the flist. Because of that, I track the recommendation posts and get notified with new comments.

I like the comment format for recs. People can easily second recommendations and make quick contributions with varying level of detail.

I always wanted to contribute to these posts but, so far, I couldn't think of fics to fit the challenge. I would be less likely to make a rec post as I am considering myself still a little green.

I would hope that the comment possibility wouldn't disappear for good. :)

Thanks so much for your feedback! We are avidly studying all the options. Either way, we're happy to hear you like the comm, and I would totally encourage you to rec in any format. New people in the fandom are precisely what keeps it going strong, and your recs could really make us see things with fresh eyes.
