Oh, I've got a lovely one for this!

Beyond Embarrassment by Speranza. Fraser/Kowalski, ~11,000 words, adult. I have to warn for ( skip to the bottom of this comment to see what I'm warning for), but you may wish to bear in mind what this rec challenge is when you see the warning. :)

I love Fraser's matter-of-fact attitude in this one, not to mention it's a really clever and unusual way of bringing the boys together!

* * * SPOILER, ONLY NOT REALLY, YOU'LL GET TO IT AS SOON AS YOU START READING * * *

Character death. Sort of.

The first thing that crosses my mind for this challenge is the podfic Into A Far Country, read by suzumenoko and written by keerawa. It's definitely on the magical end of magical realism, and the reading reinforces the dark atmosphere of the story. This is also one of those podfics where the reading made me appreciate the story more than when I just read it on the screen.
